Saturday Spotlight: A Special SugarVeil® Products Collaboration

Surprise! I've got a twist on the usual Saturday Spotlight - a special video collaboration!

Back in January, eight members of the YouTube Dessert Network were put to the test! And what a fun test it was! ("Fun test"?!! I know, I know, that might sound like an oxymoron, but when tests involve the making of cookies with great products, it's hard not to smile.)

So what was the test?! Glad you asked! Cookie Connection member and SugarVeil® founder Michele Hester challenged each of us to use their edible lace and other products in innovative ways on wedding-themed cookies and cupcakes, and to then make a video about our projects. We had a few months to experiment with a broad range of SugarVeil® products, including the confectionery icing mix itself, various silicone mats, spreading tools, their recently enhanced AirPen tool, and a bunch of other stuff that came in a glorious pink and green tote bag!

It was truly a treasure trove that spurred countless hours of experimentation and learning for me. (In addition to my video for this challenge, I've got two or three other SugarVeil® ones up my sleeve!) So, before unveiling the results, a huge thank you to Michele for allowing us all this wonderful opportunity.

And, now for the grand reveal! In addition to classic molding of white edible lace, you'll see a host of other techniques using SugarVeil® products. Among the eight of us, we've covered everything from two-tone tinting and airbrushing to cookie wraps, punched cut-outs, and even embossing with the mats themselves. There's no doubt that SugarVeil® is versatile!

Here are the videos in no particular order; the complete collection can also be viewed in this YouTube playlist. May our experiments spur many new (and fun!) cookie designs for you.

You already know that I liked all the tutorials/videos, instructions, use, decorations, color - I could go on and on.  A special thanks to all of you.  I have the site and have viewed Michele's videos and still I am unsure.  Oh well, one day.   I will watch these videos over and over...  I need to get a clue.  Smiling!

I am a fan of the sugar laces too!  I loved the video.  I never used a powder in the mats, which is the reason to  use it?    I use edible sprays and edible lusters or edible opaques to give color when I will use them to decorate cakes or chocolates.   For small laces I kept them in ziploc bags all togheter for months and I have no problem with them. The big ones I storage them like in the video.  Wow I am watching all videos!! I am very happy for the new ideas!   Thanks to all people that made this available for us! Thank so much!

Thanks! By "powder", do you mean the cornstarch that we dust the mat with? If so, it helps to absorb moisture and release the lace with less sticking.

Thanks for answering!  I have no problems to take them off.  But I will try them with this tip to see what happens.  Thank you!.

Do you use SugarVeil lace, or another brand? All of the brands behave a little differently. SugarVeil (the company) recommends dusting with their product, and I found that it helps as well.
