Saturday Spotlight: Top 10 3-D Gingerbread Projects

In honor of Gingerbread Month here on Cookie Connection, this week's Saturday Spotlight features nothing other than . . . gingerbread, naturally! More specifically though, I've cast the spotlight on 3-D projects, as opposed to classic pernÍčky or other 2-D gingerbread delights, which will likely be the subject of next week. (Yes, I purposely spilled the beans. So take that hint and run with it, OK?!)

Below you'll see mostly houses, though they cover the full gingerbread gamut from teeny-tiny glass-encased vignettes and cozy ski chalets to sprawling mansions befitting royalty. But in all cases, this week's honored constructions are impressive! Just scroll on down to see what I mean!

Oh, a couple of housekeeping notes: Though the site's trending algorithms* determined the order as usual, I did take the liberty of skipping past duplicate views of the same project so that more cookiers' fine work could get featured today. Please, also, special applause to the newcomers to our list - this week, there are several fresh talents in our spotlight!

* As a reminder, a word about how the rankings are determined: The rankings are not at all subjective. In fact, they are determined essentially by you, our members, and the activity (number of views, likes, and comments) you've bestowed on each photo. The site uses a top-secret algorithm that weighs these various factors to determine which photos are trending most quickly (i.e., are the "hottest") over specified periods of time. As such, the hot list at the time of this announcement may look a little different a few hours or a day from now as more photos are added to the site.

So that no one has an unfair advantage in making it onto a hot list, the algorithm is secret even to site administrators. Only our platform developers know the code, which has been exhaustively tested by those developers and Cookie Connection staff.

To check out our other hot lists, at any time of day, visit our Hot Spot, also found in the site's main navigation line.

Can't wait to see heaps more creations for next year

Kate, we're honoring gingerbread this entire month, so it's not too late. Just post clips (photos) to either of our two gingerbread clip sets to be considered.

I'm lucky I made the gingerbread house for the magazine in a good timing. Anyway I'm so happy to see my gingerbread house here!

In Japan some shops started to sell gingerbread house kits just some years ago but it's still not common to make a gingerbread house at home.
