Saturday Spotlight: Top 10 Videos of the Week

I know, I know, it's so easy to get distracted by all of the gorgeous cookies gracing our home page galleries each day, and to forget that there's more to Cookie Connection than just photos. We've got a 24/7 live chat room, scheduled chats, surveys, an event calendar, forums where you can ask whatever cookie question your heart desires, and an info-rich blog with loads of tutorials and the perennial favorite Practice Bakes Perfect challenges. (Side note: Our latest challenge closes tomorrow, Sunday, at 5 pm central, so if you haven't yet stenciled a cookie, there's still time!)

Even within our so-called "Clips" section, we have more than just photos. Did you know that we now have over 170 videos in our video library - a collection that rivals many YouTube channels - and that those videos include everything from long-format tutorials to shorter stop-motion animations and other visual ditties?! Well, we do - and they're well worth some long overdue recognition in today's Saturday Spotlight!

So please say congrats to the producers of the ten top-trending* videos this week! * As a reminder, a word about how the rankings are determined: The rankings are not at all subjective. In fact, they are determined essentially by you, our members, and the activity (number of views, likes, and comments) you've bestowed on each photo. The site uses a top-secret algorithm that weighs these various factors to determine which photos are trending most quickly (i.e., are the "hottest") over specified periods of time. As such, the hot list at the time of this announcement may look a little different a few hours or a day from now as more photos are added to the site.

So that no one has an unfair advantage in making it onto a hot list, the algorithm is secret even to site administrators. Only our platform developers know the code, which has been exhaustively tested by those developers and Cookie Connection staff.

Congrats to all the honorees and thank you so much for sharing.

Watching a video helps to better understand the work (sometimes hours), skills and techniques needed to make a cookie, something that even the most beautiful pics can't tell. I personally enjoy to see how a cookie comes to life little by little.
At the end videos, pics, and memories of people in awe while watching and tasting a cookie, is all that last of this crazy beautiful ephimeral art.

I know many people haven't watched them - people get so riveted on the photos and don't always make use of the other great areas of the site. But videos are now getting added every week, so it's also a good place to visit. (Easy to access too - just click on "Videos" under "Clips" and they're all there, listed from most to least recently posted.)
