Congrats to Our Two (!) July Site Artists!

Julia M. Usher
July is a month blessed with bounty - idyllic summer vacations, laid-back gatherings with friends and family, outdoor parties galore, festive patriotic fireworks (at least here in the US), and . . . yes, two Cookie Connection featured site artists! Aren't we lucky?! The artist whose work will be featured in the first half of July is none other than @Magadiuz, aka Ina Uzzanu, who was, coincidentally, also featured around this time last year. (See that post here .) Ina's...Read More...

Congratulations to Our New Site Contributor!

Julia M. Usher
Hi, everyone! I've got a great surprise for you! @Aproned Artist, aka Samantha Yacovetta, has officially joined our team of Cookie Connection contributors as of today! As you probably know from seeing her work on this site, she's made a name for herself in the cookie world with her precise work, elegant designs, and keen attention to showstopping details. So it only makes sense then that her bimonthly cookie tutorials will focus on the special little details that make big...Read More...

Hi, all, I've been receiving an unusually large number of questions about how members can edit or delete their own content. It's super important for you to know how to do this, as I typically do not edit posts for people, unless I happen to see a misclassified image or other typo. It can also take me several hours to days to respond to site inquiries like this, as I work several other jobs. That being said, your surest bet for getting a quick answer is to familiarize yourself with our site...Read More...
Hi, all, regrettably, I've recently had to delete some images from challenges and other areas of the site due to lack of compliance with Rule #8 of our posting guidelines, which states that artwork (including characters, from Disney, Hasbro, etc.) cannot be copied and posted here without permission from the creator : http://cookieconnection.juliau...READ-BEFORE-YOU-POST In response to those deletions, some members have asked me why so many licensed character cookies exist on the site,...Read More...

Hi, all! Before posting images or videos to the Clips area, please review the site's Terms of Use , as well as all of the following posting rules. They are designed to give your images more visibility on the site, to make sure artists are given proper credit for design inspiration and/or source artwork, and to avoid copyright violations. I'll start with the easy cataloging stuff first . . . 1. Be sure to edit the main photo title so it's descriptive of the cookie . Many people are uploading...Read More...

July Site Art - Just Rotated!

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all! As you probably noticed, I just rotated our site art. We were lucky to have two site art submissions for this month, so, now that we're at the mid-month mark, @Kim Damon's summer church fair-themed set is taking over for @Magadiuz's glorious blue butterflies. To read more about our July site artists, and to see their submissions in more detail, please check out our earlier introduction to them, here . Thanks again, Kim and Ina, for your...Read More...

Surprise Visitor - No Saturday Spotlight!

Julia M. Usher
Hi, everyone! My sincerest apologies. Tomorrow morning, I'm getting a surprise visit from a family member who I have not seen in several years. So yesterday, after receiving an email that she was passing through St. Louis, I dropped everything and spent several hours furiously cleaning up cookie debris and trying to make the house look civilized. Right now, it's 3 am on Sunday morning, and I have just finished the bare minimum of cleaning (bathrooms, kitchen, and guest bedroom), and I can't...Read More...

Summer hasn't yet fully arrived here in Missouri - on one day, the thermostat might trick you into thinking it has, and then, on the very next day, it plummets to brisk spring-like temperatures, usually accompanied by lots of rain. Well, I'm ready for brighter, warmer days every day (and not for sun-bathing, but to help my cookies dry faster!), so I'm going to will the new season to arrive (at least in my mind) by plastering this site with super summery artwork this month: Isn't our June...Read More...

Hang onto your pastry bags, Cookie Connection members! We've got a world-class sugar artist and educator as our featured guest in our upcoming July chat! (Aside: I'm still working on scheduling our June chat, and will keep you posted if it should materialize.) Wondering who our July chatter might be? Here are some hints . . . he comes from the UK, but now lives in Georgia, USA; he first rose to stardom, at a very young age, because of his fabulous cakes and sugar flowers; he's made sweets...Read More...

Hi, all! As I'm sure most of our site veterans are well aware, @Laegwen, known in real life as Leoni Eckart, has been an official Cookie Connection contributor for just over a year! She made her inaugural blog post on May 12, 2016, and has been posting her inspired cookie tutorials under the Get Inspired with Laegwen section of our blog ever since. Lucky us! Words really can't express how appreciative I am of Leoni's consistently high quality work and commitment to...Read More...

Site Art Swap!

Julia M. Usher
In case you thought you were seeing double, you weren't! Yes, the site background and banner art has changed for the second time in one month, because we have not one, but two honored site artists in May! As a refresher, @Sandra Garvey's glorious work decked the site until today, and now we're featuring @Kim Damon's vibrant Mother's Day tea set, just in time to ring out our moms' special day. In the event that you were wondering why the art you now see on...Read More...

Say Hello to Our May Site Artists!

Julia M. Usher
Yes, you saw that right! We've got not just one, but TWO cookie artists who will be sharing our banner and backdrop in the month of May. You might call it a delicious double feature! As you'll soon see, both artists' site submissions* are bolder than bold, with super-saturated colors that will knock your socks off. Yet, their color palettes and themes are completely different. (Though, even with these differences, one could argue that they're a match made in heaven - after all, who wouldn't...Read More...

No Saturday Spotlight This Weekend

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all! I regret that I won't be able to do a Spotlight this weekend. As you may or may not know, I have been doing all-day, non-stop stenciling demos at So Flo Cake & Candy Expo since Friday. And, with one more day still to go in the expo, I need to reserve my energy (and maximize sleep) for tomorrow. I hope you will understand! The Spotlight will resume on next Saturday, May 6. (Thanks for your patience.) In the meantime, I leave you with a few images of my stencil booth and...Read More...

Mark Your Calendars for Our May Live Chat!

Julia M. Usher
Lucky us! In the month of May, we're continuing our live chat series with CookieCon 2017 instructors , and we've got another wonderful featured guest for you: Teri Lewis of @tweets...cookie connection (completely unrelated to this Cookie Connection, BTW)! Though I was first dazzled by Teri's signature sparkly cookies at the CookieCon premiere some three or four years ago, Teri's medium at CookieCon 2017 was chocolate! There, she explored how to make dimensional elements with both modeling...Read More...

Meet Our April Site Artist

Julia M. Usher
Wow! Can it really almost be April? I've accomplished a small fraction of what I set out to do this year, and it's already one quarter of the way over. Yikes! I don't know how everyone here does all that they do?!! It's truly incredible to view the volume of wonderful work that so many of you produce, day in and day out. And our monthly site artists are no different - they continue to impress and delight with each of their monthly posts. If you have even a shadow of a doubt, just take a look...Read More...

Upcoming Cookie Connection Posting Schedule

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all! Just an FYI: I will be out of town next weekend and also the following weekend for Easter. That being said, there will be no Spotlight next weekend (April 8/9), but I will try to resume on Easter Sunday when I return from my trip. (If I don't, you'll know I decided to take the holiday completely off! ) Also, the next Practice Bakes Perfect challenge is still targeted to post on April 8 (or 9, depending on my travel schedule), and a wonderful Cookier Close-up should post before then...Read More...

A Bittersweet Goodbye and Happy Hello!

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all, I'm not sure if you've had an opportunity to catch @Dolce Sentire's recent tutorial ( here ), but I encourage you to do so for at least a couple of reasons. First, it's a great tutorial, as always. But, second (and this is where the "bitter" part of "bittersweet" comes in), she reveals in it that she'll be leaving her position of site contributor, effective immediately. The "sweet" part is: she's got lots of other great cookie opportunities awaiting her! While I'm...Read More...

Saturday Spotlight Update

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all! Just a heads up that it's taking me longer than envisioned to write the CookieCon 2017 Sugar Show recap, the subject of this week's Spotlight. (There were lots of awards categories, and thus there are lots of great photos to load!) It's unlikely I will finish it tonight, so stay tuned for a release later this weekend.Read More...

Mark Your Calendars for Our March Chat!

Julia M. Usher
Hey, all! Mark your calendars for our next live chat on March 25. Over the course of the next few to several months, I'll be chatting (and conducting Cookier Close-up interviews) with all of the CookieCon 2017 instructors with whom I've never done these things before! First up, is the lovely Dany Lind of Dany's Cakes (and cookies!) in the Lewiston/Auburn area of Maine, USA. In this chat, we'll explore Dany's distinctive piped, dimensional cookie work and get the lowdown on her experience as...Read More...

Introducing Our March Site Artist

Julia M. Usher
March conjures up many varied images for me, ranging from raucous leprechauns and blustery winds to softer, gentler harbingers of spring, such as the season's first birdsongs and the muted pinks and greens of hellebores peeking up through my forgotten fall leaves. This month's site art certainly falls more towards the latter end of that spectrum (my personal preference, BTW) with its barely-there spring-y hues and graceful scrolls and brush embroidery . . . And who, pray tell, is the...Read More...

You'll Love Our February Site Artists!

Julia M. Usher
As Charles M. Schulz once said, " All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt." Of course, the same can be said of cookies too, especially cookies as wondrous as the love-inducing sets gracing our banner and backdrop throughout this Valentine month! I guarantee you'll fall head over heels as soon as you see them! And I do mean "sets", plural! We're super fortunate to have not one, but two site contributions for February, which will be taking turns in the spotlight.Read More...
