Although we don’t know each other and live one thousand miles away, NaGeRa and Doctorcookies are originals from the same country. So this collaboration was a great opportunity to feel home again and work together using our common language.

It was an idea of NaGeRa in origin. She contacted me a week ago through Cookie Connection. NaGeRa wanted to make cookies inspired by the beautiful fairies of illustrator Elina Ellis (http://www.elinaellis.com/). I thought it was a great idea. Not only were beautiful cookies, but also forced me to leave my comfort zone, take some risks and learn in the process.

We chose four illustrations and made the decision to share the job. Both of us would make four cookies: two featuring a background and two with a fairy on it. Later we would merge it digitally. Doctorcookies made the books fairy and the milk fairy to insert on the backgrounds by NaGeRa. And NaGeRa made the flowers fairy and the apples fairy, again on Doctorcookies’ backgrounds. So we ended up with four illustrations using eight cookies.

Because of the tight schedule we needed to work quickly. But losing some sleep and working on an exciting project works wonders. I believe we both are happy with the final result.

It’s been a pleasure to work alongside with my colleague and I am grateful for the opportunity to bridge the gap despite the miles between us thanks to our common passion of decorating cookies.

Thank you so much Cookie Connection for this opportunity. And, specially, ¡gracias, NaGeRa!

Both sets are beautiful and what a nice idea! A great use of technology for an amazing outcome!

I can really relate when you talk about leaving the confort zone and learn in the process.

Doctorcookies I am so glad you decided to go out of your comfort zone it worked out beautifully it's so nice to hear that you and Nigeria we're from the same country it makes it even more exciting I love what you both have done

DoctorCookies, you and NAGERA did a beautiful job cookie-fying Elina Ellis's work.  However, I must ask whether you have express permission from Ms. Ellis to copy her work, per the Cookie Connection posting rules (please se specifically, Rule #8):

Thank you for your kind interest, @Bakerloo Station

Ms. Ellis was very pleased with our cookie work and really thankful we mentioned her.

Besides the permission, let me say we've been very respectful with Ms. Ellis beautiful work and intellectual property.

We mentioned her name as author of the original art in the very post title, we wrote about her outstanding job, and we even added a link to her website.

Best regards,

Clara

Agree - lovely representation of Ellis' work and a clever way to combine the fairies and backgrounds. However, we do need to check compliance with the site's "permission to copy" rule. Please let us know if permission was obtained. Thanks!

Kind regards

Excellent - thank you! Next time, so as to prevent us from asking these questions, it would be helpful if you say "original art by so-and-so; copied with permission". Thanks again for being so diligent about credits.

Hello Julia,

here you have a capture of Elina Ellis' mail:

I have read many times your rules (specially rule #8) and I haven't found that it is necessary to put the words "copied with permission", that's why we haven't written it in our post despite having it, but we wrote "by Ellina Elis" and my friend Doctorcookies also put the illustrator's website.

In the future we will fullfil your rules and for that it would be nice if you could give as an example of how other colleagues get the permission to copy copyrighted designs, as I think it's more complicated as in our case, since they are large companies. From your words I understand that all the other colleagues use to get permissions, but I could not find any example on the site, sorry.

Thank you for your support.

Excellent!  I am glad you obtained permission.  These are really lovely cookies, and you have done an incredible job "cookie-fying" Ms. Ellis's work.  I have no doubt should would be pleased with the final project!  Finally, I am amazed by how you were able to blend the two sets of cookies digitally.  Could you share with us the app or program you used, and what process you used to meld the two sets of photos?  I am intrigued!
