Halloween B.C. | Manu

I grew up in the 70's reading B.C. and the Wizard of Id, some of the comic books were already in my house before I was born, some have been purchased right after. The same books have followed me wherever I have moved. I started just by looking at the pictures before I could read and then I kept reading and re-reading the strips year after year, catching up with their meaning while I was growing up.
Those strips are printed in my mind and I keep following online everyday the new ones "written and drawn by Mason Mastroianni and co-written by Mick Mastroianni, grandsons of the strips' creator, Johnny Hart".
The strip I used to decorate the cookies is from last year (10-20-2015).

B.C. and Wiz are the first comics I read. It has been fun to cookie-fy this strip, as two of my passions, comics and cookie decorating, have become one thing.
I am so glad, and so honored, that I got the permission to post the pic of these cookies

Absolutely awesome you're sketching is beautiful it was so nice for John Hart Studios to  gave you permission to use there comic strip I've had read many of their comic strips through the years 

This is so great Manu!!! Love your attention to detail...these kind of character cookies are very difficult to do let alone do so well

Yes Anne, I was honored to have their permission and these cookies are a kind of tribute to their work.

"Camera Lucida" gave me a good hand to sketch the strip on the cookies. As a kid I have been struggling for years to sketch a decent B.C. or Peter!

You did a very good job with these. Your lettering is also really good. If I didn't know better, I would think that you used edible icing transfers!

Thank you, Christine, again "Camera Lucida" has helped me, but I keep your compliment as it is not easy to trace with the marker on the cookie while looking on the Ipad and a mistake could mean to ruin the cookie! Anyway it is way better than my handwriting!!! It think the Pico projector is much better for lettering.

Thank you, Carol! As I said it has been so much fun to cookie-fy something I liked so much. What I didn't find very easy was to give those splashes of colors, so close to water colors, to the bodies and the sand. I used again gel food colors extended with a greek liqueur called "Mastika", the same combination I used to paint my "mosque cookie set", this way the paintbrush just flowed by itself on the royal icing.

Thank you, Julia! I am glad you like them. It has been a different decorating experience to draw comics on cookies. And lot of fun as they are among my favourites comics. I have one more project left, for which I need to ask permission to the author and then I think I am finished with "cookiefying someone else work" for a while.

I love @Dolce Sentire - Aixa Zunino's tutorials, everytime there is something interesting to learn. Her technique for the tombstone was just perfect for this cookie stone! Actually all the tutorials posted here on CC are precious, this site is a treasure box.

Yes, I outlined with a black food marker while using "Camera Lucida". It takes a lot of patience because it takes nothing to ruin the cookie. And if you look closer the work isn't really clean, as some of the letters are too dark and same for the eyes of B.C. and Peter. Probably with the Pico projector or Kopy Cake the outcome will be better as the image is on the cookie and when you trace you look directly on the cookie and not on the Ipad. I then colored only with gel food colors (I used Modecor) extended with "Mastika" a greek liqueur that I tried once, as it was the only alcohol I had available home, and it really worked well as the paintbrush just flows on the royal icing. I didn't use any dust as I wanted to have the same white effect of the original strip with just some color accents.
