Martenitsas

Today we celebrate Baba Martha's Day (Granny Martha, from March) here in Bulgaria. We put Martenitsas, made by white and red yarn as pom poms or tassels called Pijo (male) and Penda (female). These are small and worn on the left side of our clothes. We put them off when we see the first blossomed tree or a stork. Baba Martha is the beginning of Spring and she brings health and happiness to everyone.

Yes, this is a lovely tradition we have only here and maybe in some parts of Romania and Moldova
