3-D Christmas Cookie Decorating Course with Julia M Usher, at The Wilton School

It’s never too early to start preparing for your holiday cookie decorating! In this two-day course, you’ll not only make two of Julia’s gorgeous 3-D cookie projects, perfect for holiday gift-giving, but you’ll also learn several baking and decorating skills that can be used at any time of year to elevate your cookie designs. Julia starts the course with the basics of mixing dough and royal icing to the proper consistency. She then advances to baking contoured and embossed cookie shapes and nearly 12 cookie decorating and 3-D assembly techniques, including outlining, flooding, wet-on-wet detailing, marbling, stamping, stenciling, airbrushing, working with edible papers, dusting, painting, and piping 2-D and 3-D royal icing transfers. While Julia’s Christmas box and ornament cookies look impressive, she breaks them down into manageable steps that even beginner decorators can master.

Students will complete: 3-D Christmas box (one of two styles demonstrated by Julia), 3-D Christmas ornament (one of three styles demonstrated by Julia), and assorted 2-D cookies to fill the box.

Previous experience needed: None, though some knowledge of royal icing is helpful.

I would LOVE to take this class! I might actually be able to drive to this one!

Great! I would love to see you there! I wanted to get it up early, as it's the only hands-on class I'm doing in the US this year, and people have been asking. (I'm doing a few smaller demos around the country - Miami, Kansas City, and possibly New York - but the rest of my events are very far away.)

I don't know if I am going to NYC yet - in discussions now - and, as noted, they would only be short (45-minute) demos, without any hands-on component. This organization does not pay for travel fees, or prep cookies for the students, and I cannot afford to shoulder all of that cost. So the only way I can go is if they can guarantee me a sufficient number of demos to cover my travel expenses and pay me some form of teaching fee. Anyway, once I know, I list all classes here, on my personal site, and on my Facebook page under Events.
