A Question About Painting

Hi everyone:

I'm attempting to paint on my first cookies today. Can you tell me what is the best way to add color to an area to make it darker? For instance, I am painting a face and right now I've covered the area but it's a bit lighter than I'd like it to be. Should I wait for that to dry and then go over it again, or dip my brush in more paint/less water while the first layer is still wet? Not sure how to do that. I'm afraid of getting too much moisture on the cookie if I add color right now while it's wet. Is that an issue?
