Happy Birthday to Cookie Connection - A Survey!

With the mission of Cookie Connection in mind ("a place to learn, share, and celebrate the art of cookie decorating"), please take a moment to share your thoughts about how to improve your Cookie Connection experience in year three and beyond! I can't promise to act on every suggestion, but those that register a lot of responses will definitely grab my attention! ~ JMU

P.S. To answer questions 1 through 4, select the third option ("Other") and then write in your response. Ignore the top two options unless you really have no comment. Sorry, our survey system only allows multiple choice questions, so I have to set it up this way. (Come to think of it, this would be ONE thing I'd like to see changed in year three! )

P.P.S. Your survey responses will only be viewable by me, so please be honest!

P.P.P.S. I am going to let the survey run for a couple of weeks; then tally the ideas to determine those with the greatest response. Once I do that, I'll weigh the most popular ideas against resource requirements, make some decisions about what features to add or delete, and post this outcome in the forums. Please note that the site operates completely on volunteer hours, so it will be impossible to implement every great idea.

What ONE new feature, if any, would you like to see added to Cookie Connection in the next year? (It can be anything, within reason!)

On a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being extremely well), how well is Cookie Connection currently serving its mission?

5 = extremely well
4 = very well
3 = so-so
2 = not very well
1 = extremely poorly

Note: I added question 5 after a few people had taken the survey. If those people want to email their responses to me, that would be great. Or not answering the question is fine too!

Additional Note: I am going to let the survey run for a couple of weeks; then tally the ideas to determine those with the greatest response. I completed the survey the other day and today just thought of something I'd like to add. I don't know how to add it so I'll just post it here if it's OK. Feel free to remove this post after reading. I just wanted you to see this suggestion. Again, thank you for this site.

My idea for an improvement would be to be able to view pics easier when doing a search. For example, today I did a search on "bouquet" because I wanted to see pics of cookie bouquets where the cookies are on sticks and arranged in a container. A lot of pics came up. In order to view them I have to click on one and look at it, go back to the page with all the pics and click on the next one, etc. So I'm going back and forth after each pic. I'm wondering if there's a way to just arrow thru my search results. I hope this makes sense. Thank you for asking for feedback. Again, love the site

Thanks for your feedback!

We sort of have this functionality already. If you click on Clips in the main navigation line and then click on the Bouquet clip set in the right hand blue column, all of the photos that are in that set will come up. You can then sort them alphabetically or by post date using the toggle in the upper right. The photos view in patchwork (not gallery/slide show) mode, but they view bigger if you locate them this way, and some of the poster's information also reveals. Does this viewing mode better address your needs? https://cookieconnection.juliausher.com/set/bouquets

Also, any of the photos that are displayed in widgets (boxes) on the site can also be viewed in gallery/slide show mode (which shows bigger images that you can quickly scroll through). All you need to do is click on "See All" in the lower right of the widget, and then "View as Slide Show" in the upper left to view this way. Ex. http://cookieconnection.juliau...ENDING_OVER_LAST_DAY

However, we do not have the slide show viewing option if you access clip sets in the manner described in the first paragraph. If you would like photos in any clip set to display bigger and in gallery/slide show mode, I have already submitted that recommendation to my site developers (several months ago). They only develop new features (for free) if enough of their community sites also want the feature. Evidently not many people do, as my recommendation still has not been implemented. Unfortunately, I cannot pay to implement any new features, as, if and when the site earns any surplus revenue, it will go first to paying people who volunteer to keep up this site.

So, if the other viewing options just described don't meet your needs, all I can do now is re-submit a recommendation, and wait. Let me know what you think of those alternate views.

*** UPDATE ***

Hi, all! Thank you to those members who completed this survey, which opened at the start of June. If you haven't yet filled it out, please do so (just scroll to the top of this post)! It's quick and easy, but you need to act fast, as the survey closes at 9 am central on July 6, 2015 (today). I'd love to hear from you!

After the survey closes, I'll spend the month of July (in and around other jobs) reviewing the results and deciding which recommendations to implement and how. The latter will be a function of both popularity and affordability of the idea.

Please note that not every good idea will be acted on, unless there are volunteers willing to lead the charge . . . As Cookie Connection is a free site, we have no income stream other than advertising, which only just covers the (growing) cost of keeping the site online with the Hoop.la service. All additional work, including mine and those of our generous contributors, is done on a volunteer basis, and those volunteers are already working at maximum capacity. That said, if I see a good idea, I may be calling on you, and particularly those who recommended it, to help make it happen!

I've also noticed a few recommendations for functionality that the site already has, so I'll likely publish some refresher notes at the same time that speak to those points and how the site accomplishes them right now.

Anyway, this is just to say "stay tuned"! You can expect a more detailed update from me in early August with the outcome from this survey. Thanks again!

Again, to complete the survey, just scroll to the top of this post.
