I was wondering if anyone has used the FoodSaver to seal their individual cookie bags?   I have a FoodSaver but only used it a few times long ago before I ever started cookie making.  It has a seal only option.  I tested on the foodsaver bags and they worked perfectly.  I guess I need to buy the polypropylene bags and give it a shot.  Does anyone know if Michaels sell the poly bags?

I used my Foodsaver for many years to seal my cookies.  It worked wonderful with cello bags I purchased at my local cake supply store.  It died about 2 years ago and I got an impulse sealer which I love.(It was an older professional model (the Foodsaver).

I still miss my Foodsaver, I got alot of use out of it!

cookiemookie, I tried using cello bag this morning but it didn't work out very well.  The heat kind of melted the bag when sealing.  I guess the bag was too thin.  Will try it with poly bags when I figure out where I can get some locally.

I have a Food Saver with the seal only feature and have sealed treat bags, potato chip bags, cracker sleeves, rice bags, brown sugar bags... I just don't let it seal for the "standard time".

I just tried a "treat bag" (which was pretty thin...I got it at Michael's).  I counted to 5 (not slowly, so maybe 3 seconds) and flipped the latch up to stop it and raised the lid and removed it immediately.  Perfect seal, no bag melting.  I have melted a plastic bag before but just moved down a tad (it was a bag of rice I think) and sealed again for just a brief couple of seconds.  Works beautifully to keep all of my pantry items from going stale in our incredibly humid environment.  One thing I also have noted from experience...the seal bar on the Food Saver, after using repeatedly, gets hot...so reducing the seconds of seal time as you do larger numbers would be a good idea so as not to get to the melting stage.  Hope this helps!

TheTailoredCookie - do you know how long cookies stay fresh longer with thin (1.2 mil) vs thick (2 mil) poly bags?  I checked the prices and for 4x6 bags, the 2 mil cost $5 more.

Debbi Hook - Thanks for all the info.  Next time I will try it for 3 sec on the Michaels treat bags.
