Hi, everyone,

I am brand new to cookie decorating and in need of any advice I can get, please.  My eldest son's 18th birthday is next Thursday, and I have decided to try to "cookiefy" (pretty sure that's not a real word) his favourite singer - Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine. Can anyone give me any advice on how to go about making it look realistic, such as the rise that naturally occurs in one's nose, jaw line, mouth, eyes, etc.? I have attached the inspiration pic of her, as well as the drawing his best friend did for me for the cookie, just in case that helps . . .

Thank you in advance for your help/advice.

Michelle

I just did a cookie face of a real person (and I'm no artist!). I found a couple websites that turn a photograph into a drawing or cartoon and that really helped me simplify the face enough to be able to paint it.

Hope this helps!

I know what it's like when you have a vision in your head of what you want to achieve, and when it doesn't turn out exactly right it's disappointing.

However, as someone who has no idea what your original vision looked like, I think the cookie turned out great!  It definitely looks like Florence.  Especially if this is the first time you have attempted something like this.  Well done!

By the way, I have total hair envy after seeing that photo.

Wow, I think the cookie came out really nice, especially for a first attempt! I tried doing Pilgrims last month, a man and a woman, and the woman came out looking like a drag queen she was so bad. Instead of naming my blog post "Pilgrim Cookies" I actually called it "The Pilgrim and the Drag Queen"! LOL...I'm new too and most of my cookies don't come out the way I initially envision them so you're not alone. You should be very proud of that cookie! I'm sure your son loved it and loved the fact that his mom did that for him.

Wow!  Thank you for the befunky tip, Lucky Penny!!  I haven't had the patience to improve my photos on my computer, but the befunky website lightened them up in no time and was so easy to use.   I've tried all sorts of ways to improve my photography and am sure I will be using this site often.

I think you did a really nice job! I know the feeling of disappointment when a cookie you had in your head doesn't turn out the way you expected...I love the links that Lucky Penny recommended...I'll have to try those out...my hubby's birthday is coming up...maybe I'll cookiefy him! lol!!
