Good Sugar Cookie Recipe, Please!

There are so many cookie bloggers and so many recipes out there. Many are very similar. You need to try them and see what you like and what works for you. Everyone's taste is different. I'm always surprised how people will get different results using the same exact recipe. But, there's differences in oven temps, butter, sugars used, etc. I started out with the NFSC (no fair sugar cookie) recipe and worked from there. I kept reading about how some people remove the baking powder so the cookies don't spread, yet others leave it in with no problems. So I tried not using the BP and my cookies were hard as rocks. Then I found a recipe that used only confectioners/powdered sugar and they were so soft they broke apart. Now I use just a little baking powder and use half granulated sugar and half powdered sugar. Flavoring is a another factor. I generally use vanilla, almond and butter emulsions. In the Fall I use pumpkin spice emulsion with a bunch of spices. Here's a link to a NFSC recipe I found online (hope it's ok to post it here, if not, please delete). Good luck in your search. http://www.cakecentral.com/rec...o-fail-sugar-cookies

Joanie Thank you so much for the info. I will try that recipe and I will post how it came out.

It took me a few years to find what I consider the "perfect" recipe.  I don't mind sharing what I was able to find.  I'm sorry, I can't even remember whose blog I found it on to give them credit, but here goes:  2 Sticks Butter, 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1/2 tsp. almond, 1 egg, 3 cups flour, 2 tsp. baking powder and I add just about 2 Tbsp. of cornstarch (my idea - seems to create the nice clean edges of the cookie).  Best tasting cookie recipe I've ever eaten and all my customers love it!  Give it a try Dukemom!

Agree with DukeMom in that the "perfect" recipe is very much subjective and a matter of personal preference. Best to try several and see what best suits your tastes and what you are trying to do with the cookie dough.

Mine is similar, but I modified to half as much baking powder and double the vanilla.

Moetink, i use a similar recipe. I do wonder though if any of you have any suggestions in terms of flavoring, besides vanilla and almond extract. What is another flavor that people love? Kids in particular. Also, when it comes to roysl icing i use sugarbelles recipe. I like it, not love it, just like it. So I was also wondering if amy of you have any other royal icing recipes that you wouldnt mind sharing? Thanks!

Please search our forums for the answer to your royal icing recipe question. It has been asked and answered before, and I would prefer not to start another sub-thread about it here (where it will not be easily found). It's best to stick to one primary question per forum topic for searchability reasons, and this one should remain focused on sugar cookie recipes. Thank you!
