Say Hello to Our November Site Artist

Julia M. Usher
Boy, do I have a lot to be thankful for this month . . . a couple of family gatherings, a new product line (stay tuned for a HUGE launch giveaway in about two weeks), a bounty of food planned for my Thanksgiving table, and . . . more gorgeous site artwork! I absolutely love this banner and backdrop created by former Cookie Connection contributor @Yankee Girl Yummies (aka Kari Arroyo) for Practice Bakes Perfect Challenge #13 . Kari was the very deserving November winner of that...Read More...

Using Molds without Using Fondant

I am also trying to experiment with molds and attaching to cookies. I tried royal icing in the molds - no luck! I am not a fan of fondant EVER. I used the Wilton melts and those look good, BUT melt so FAST if touched. What else are people using? Has to be a simpler way . . . I have purchased quite a few, and really love these molds BUT I am confused about what will look best and is actually edible? Oh yes, and easier than many of the other options. Thank you!Read More...

I'm going to be operating under the Florida Cottage Food Law, and the label requirements are just the federal requirements. From what I'm reading on the FDA labeling and nutrition site, it sounds like, for the food coloring used in icing, I can list it as articifical color. But does anyone know for sure? Thanks.Read More...

Hi! I do a lot of royal icing (RI) transfers and then put them on a wet flooding icing. I let the RI transfers dry completely. I have been having problems when I'm doing a lighter color on a darker flood icing. It will "bleed" through. I've tried to wait a few minutes after applying the wet icing to let them set a bit, but not working. I even had a problem with this one attached and it was a darker transfer on a light orange wet. Over the day, the orange started bleeding through the blue as...Read More...

Checking in on Our Italian Members

Julia M. Usher
Hi, just checking in on our Italian members to make sure everyone is safe and sound after this week's horrible earthquakes. I hope you and those close to you were unaffected, and I offer my sincerest condolences to all who were impacted in some way. Here in the US, we are getting reports of lots of building damage but no people seriously injured - which is truly a miracle if it is true. Again, hoping for safety and security! XOXORead More...

Hello from Oklahoma!

The Cookie Ward
Hello, everyone! I just joined yesterday, so far I have learned SO MUCH! I am a self-taught cookie decorator who has just recently started selling my cookies from home. This site seems to be a wealth of knowledge! In just the day and a half since I've discovered it, I have found the answers to many problems I have run into. I can't wait to apply what I have learned and see how much my cookies improve. THANK YOU Julia for this site and your helpful/informative videos. You set the bar, in my...Read More...

What Topics to Cover in a Mother-Daughter Class?

Cub & Cuppy
Hi! I'm looking to host a class for my friends and their 4+ year-old daughters. I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions on what to cover at the class that are some really basic techniques that both mom and daughter could learn and work on together. I know this is kind of a weird request! Thanks in advance!Read More...

How to Make Airplane Cookies

Michaela Dodge
My daughter asked me to make these for her husband who just graduated from aviation college. How would I make the airplane? Can anyone give me a tutorial or tell me how? If you want advice about a cookie image in the future, please just link off to it. Thanks!]Read More...

No, the dog did not eat my homework! But a backlog of yard work, a spotty internet situation (which called for emergency tech support), the debacle otherwise known as "the US Presidential campaign" (which caused me to temporarily drop everything to gawk the way a bad accident halts traffic on the highway), and date night all got in the way of my good Saturday Spotlight intentions yesterday. In short, real life happened! The Spotlight will resume next weekend, most likely with a recap of my...Read More...
