I want to make my own cookie stencils. Do you think I need to buy the latest model or can I get away with one of the older models used? I would love to save some money and get a used one. I have seen some on Ebay and even Craigslist. My main goal is making cookie stencils. I want to upload my own images. What model do you have? Suggestions appreciated.Read More...

Hello There, Cookie Enthusiasts!

Sweethart Baking Experiment
Hey guys! My name is Kimberly, and even though I've been a member for a few years, I have never actually formally introduced myself. So I thought I would take the time to say HELLO. Anyways - yes. My name is Kimberly. I'm Canadian. Ever since I was little, I always wanted to be an artist. I've always done crafty things. I used to be a sculptor - I've been sculpting under my online alias "Monster Kookies" for more than a decade, but I got burnt out. I don't sculpt as much as I used to, but...Read More...

Many Questions About Freezing Cookie Dough

Kimi Party Majors
I want to save some time and pre-bake and freeze my cut cookies. A few questions: 1. How many days can I leave dough in the fridge before baking? 2. I heard I should cut the dough; then freeze it? 3. How many days can I freeze cut dough? 4. How long do I wait when pulled from freezer before I decorate? 5. How many days should the cookies be good for? Before colors bleed? Thank you very much for your help.Read More...

Ha, gotcha! There is no September site artist this month, so you are stuck with some images using my latest back-to-school stencil set ("A+ Teacher") from my Prettier Plaques TM stencil line! They didn't quite fit the fixed spaces of our banner and background as beautifully as our members' previous site submissions have, but I hope they convey the suggestion of "back to school", the prevailing theme of this month - and the preoccupation of most moms right now! ** IMPORTANT - I NEED YOUR...Read More...

A Case Study of Cookie Cost (from Gathering Ingredients to Packing)

Forum: Pricing
Perla Adams
Hello, I only make cookies for hobby, but recently, several people asked me to go into business. I decided to start to calculate the cost of ingredients, packing, and time. Using as a base one recipe of cookies (Gingerbread and Royal Icing), the cost of ingredients for one single iced cookie (2.5 inch diameter) is US$0.23, and packing (cellophane bag and clear individual box) is $0.58. (I live in Dubai, so cost may vary in other locations; this is an expensive city). Now, my concern is with...Read More...

Hi Perla, I just read this post and noticed you are writing from Dubai. I have just moved here last month. Glad to know a Cookie Connection member living here as well! I am not interested in selling my cookies, but I am interested in every aspect related to cookies. Samantha @Aproned Artist mentioned the costs of business in the U.S. (CFO permit fee, business licence fee, ecc). In Italy if someone want to sell homemade food then needs to open a IAD (Impresa Alimentare...Read More...

Questionable Subject Matter - Should I Accept Order or Not?

Hi, everyone! I recently booked an order for someone I went to school with. She is ordering for her own birthday and is obsessed with the TV show Supernatural. I had never seen it so wasn't really familiar with it. When we started discussion about details for her order, she requested symbols used on the show. I have attached a pic she sent me. Apparently these are supposed to be symbols of protection against evil, although they are similar to satanic symbolism (pentagrams, etc.). I'm torn...Read More...

I'm not a super quick outliner but I am not slow by any means, and I have NEVER had this happen before. By the time I outline and go to flood, my outline is already starting to dry! Any tips or ideas??Read More...

Commercial Convection Oven Woes

Jalynn
I'm using a commercial convection oven for the first time, and I am having an issue with my cookies browning on the edges but the centers of the cookies are opaque! I have rebaked several pans of cookies today - it's so frustrating! I have checked the oven temp. And it is accurate. I chill the dough, rotate the pans . . . why is this happening? Thanks !Read More...

Images Turning Green Over Time

Can anyone speak to why printed images on fondant turn a green color after a week? I am placing them on royal frosting with thinned corn syrup. Would placing the image on a thin layer of fondant be better? Is the corn syrup the problem? Or . . . is the changing of colors just something that happens over time?Read More...
