Saturday Spotlight: Top 10 Cookies

Just as we’re supposed to be bundling up in thick sweaters and downy coats, I’ve experienced the run of all possible seasons and weather this week – and not just in my travels from Washington, DC to Stonington, Maine, but in my journey through the site in preparing this Spotlight! Naturally, our hot list* has its fair share of Halloween treats, but it’s also got Thanksgiving, Christmas, and even spring- and summer-themed cookies! In fact, one of the latter was so darn well executed that I couldn’t resist selecting it for this week’s cover image. (Congrats, @Mariana Meirelles, on your charming panda and sakura set! Not only is your panda perfectly painted, but it also pulled at my heart strings by reminding me of the incredible teaching trip I made to Japan around this time last year. I miss all of my friends there so much!)

Anywho, I’m not sure if you’re all intentionally trying to confuse me with your widely varying themes , but, thankfully, I’ve got the site’s trending algorithms to keep the top Spotlight picks on point! This week, the site’s automatic calculations* said that the following ten cookies were the hottest (i.e., the most viewed, liked, and commented upon), and I’m certainly not going to dispute that! Marvelous work, everyone! And special congrats to both @Teri Pringle Wood and @Cookies Fantastique who have multiple sets recognized this week.

Congrats again to our honorees! Have a great next week, everyone, and don't forget to turn back your clocks tonight!

* As a reminder, a word about how the rankings are determined: The rankings are not at all subjective. In fact, they are determined essentially by you, our members, and the activity (number of views, likes, and comments) you've bestowed on each photo. The site uses a top-secret algorithm that weighs these various factors to determine which photos are trending most quickly (i.e., are the "hottest") over specified periods of time. As such, the hot list at the time of this announcement may look a little different a few hours or a day from now as more photos are added to the site.

So that no one has an unfair advantage in making it onto a hot list, the algorithm is secret even to site administrators. Only our platform developers know the code, which has been exhaustively tested by those developers and Cookie Connection staff.

All photos shown here are the courtesy (and copyright) of the designers listed.

To check out our other hot lists, at any time of day, visit our Hot Spot, also found in the site's main navigation line.

Another wonderful surprise to wake up to.
I’m so busy following Cake Masters in Birmingham I almost forgot about the spotlight.
Congratulations to this week’s artists
and mostly thanks to Julia, for our cookie home!

Thank you for beeing so kind Julia! It's a real honor to see one of my cookies on a cover in your comunity. I believe that going to Japan must be a trully unforguettable trip, their culture is amazing and very different from ours.I love everything about Japan and I wish I go there someday too. You made me remember about a touching story that happened in my family. My grandfather died on the age of 93. And when he was in the hospital in the last days of his life, the nurse told us that he was speacking all the time about a trip he made to Japan with my grandmother in their second honeymoon.

That made me think on how important and value a good trip can be. How it can mark us so deeply that we will think and talk about it a lot in the end of our lives. By the way, around this time in the last year I was also in an unfoguettable trip! I went all by myself to Cookie Con on Indianapolis. It was amazing! The first time I left my country all by mysef. And guess what? I was the one who got your stencil collection in the sugar show giveaway! So thank you again, very very much.

That's right - I forgot about that giveaway!  And, yes, I agree: trips - but mostly who we meet and interact with along the way - can leave indelible imprints on our lives. I have so many wonderful memories of the people I've met along my teaching journeys. All, without exception, have welcomed me into their homes with open arms - and hearts! I am forever grateful.
