Saturday Spotlight: Top 10 Cookies

I've had weeks and weeks of change and uncertainty, which show limited signs of abating. On Thursday, after months of preparation, my mom moved out of our family home of 50-plus years and across the country to live closer to me. While she was readying her 1790s house for sale on her end (read: correcting lots of deferred maintenance), I was prepping her transitional apartment in Missouri, dealing with movers, and arranging a storage unit to receive most of her things until we can move her (again) into a larger cottage for the long term. Now, 48 hours post move-in, my mom and her kitty seem happily settled into their new apartment, and many organizational tasks are behind me. Yet the ambiguity and unknowns persist. You see, I still have no idea when her moving van will arrive from Connecticut, or when a cottage will open up at her retirement community, or even if she will like living in the midwest . . .

All I know is that a return to something certain - like the predictability of this Spotlight - was just what the metaphorical doctor ordered for my frazzled self tonight. I so enjoyed seeing your week's creations! Thank you for sharing. Every honoree on this hot list* brought a ray of light into a week that was otherwise clouded by uncertainty. I trust that these cookie gems will lend plenty of sparkle to your lives too.

Congrats again, everyone! What wonderful work!

P.S. I hope to see you here again next weekend, though I will be traveling all day Saturday (for the next two Saturdays), so I probably won't get to the Spotlight 'til Sunday (and the following Sunday). Stay tuned!

* As a reminder, a word about how the rankings are determined: The rankings are not at all subjective. In fact, they are determined essentially by you, our members, and the activity (number of views, likes, and comments) you've bestowed on each photo. The site uses a top-secret algorithm that weighs these various factors to determine which photos are trending most quickly (i.e., are the "hottest") over specified periods of time. As such, the hot list at the time of this announcement may look a little different a few hours or a day from now as more photos are added to the site.

So that no one has an unfair advantage in making it onto a hot list, the algorithm is secret even to site administrators. Only our platform developers know the code, which has been exhaustively tested by those developers and Cookie Connection staff.

All photos shown here are the courtesy (and copyright) of the designers listed.

To check out our other hot lists, at any time of day, visit our Hot Spot, also found in the site's main navigation line.

I sure understand about the whole mom situation.  Mine is also settling into her new life.  You're doing a great job with all of it and it will all eventually settle into a new normal life.

Oh, I did not know, Dotty! I hope you're doing okay with your mom's transition - how are you both doing? XOXO

❤️❤️❤️

(Off to call her now to make dinner plans for tonight; it's a whole new world now, having her this close to me.)

She just moved into assisted living for memory care.  Doing quite well actually.

What a huge transition! But so glad to hear all is going well. XOXO

What a wonderful collection. Huge congratulations to everyone and a big thank you to Julia for the compilation. Particularly with all you have going on Julia. I went through the transition with my father and it was such an emotional roller coaster. In a relatively short period he went from a cottage for independent living, to an apartment for assisted living and then an a room for memory support.  It was definitely a lot to coordinate, process and unpack- literally and figuratively. I’m sending you a boatload of love and support. You’ve got this!

Oh my, what a difficult transition - I do dread the coming of that time. For now, mom seems to be adjusting well to the new place. But we still have to receive and unpack her stuff (likely twice - once now and then when she moves into the cottage); change out all of her doctors, banks, lawyer, etc.; and on and on. I am involved in every aspect of this, partly because she doesn't do anything online and so much of business these days is conducted that way, but also because I am co-trustee, POA, and all that good stuff. I appreciate the boatload of love and support, because I really do need it.

Always my friend. You’re going to surprise yourself with all you can handle.❤️❤️❤️
