Hi, all, I've been receiving an unusually large number of questions about how members can edit or delete their own content. It's super important for you to know how to do this, as I typically do not edit posts for people, unless I happen to see a misclassified image or other typo. It can also take me several hours to days to respond to site inquiries like this, as I work several other jobs. That being said, your surest bet for getting a quick answer is to familiarize yourself with our site...Read More...

Hi, all, regrettably, I've recently had to delete some images from challenges and other areas of the site due to lack of compliance with Rule #8 of our posting guidelines, which states that artwork (including characters, from Disney, Hasbro, etc.) cannot be copied and posted here without permission from the creator : http://cookieconnection.juliau...READ-BEFORE-YOU-POST In response to those deletions, some members have asked me why so many licensed character cookies exist on the site,...Read More...

We all have different message-reading tastes, so Cookie Connection has been designed to allow for everyone's individual differences! The site's default email and onsite alert notifications are set to show you most of the site info that you could get notified about, just so you're aware of the site's full functionality. But I recognize that this amount of info may (or may not) be overkill for you. That said, I recommend that you edit your "Notifications" settings as soon as you join the site...Read More...

Interview with Me on Caker's Chat

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all! Last year in April at SoFlo Cake & Candy Expo, I was interviewed by the very fun and charming Juliet Galea of Caker's Chat . Her company was part of the official media team covering the event, and she elected to interview a number of cake decorators, vendors, competitors, and others attending the show. I was, however, the sole cookie decorator who was interviewed! (I hope I represented us well! ) At the start, she asks me a bit about how I got started in the sweets business and...Read More...

Hello!

Beverly Bunker
Hello, everyone! Thank you for such a beautiful site to be a part of. I am relatively new to the art of cookie decorating for myself as a hobby. I have been drooling over cookie decorating images for about five years now, and two years ago I decided to try it out for myself. Although I did not know about the different aspects of royal icing, I still played around with decorating three dozen Valentine’s Day cookies which nobody wanted to eat because they were so pretty! Now after watching all...Read More...

Hi, all! In case you didn't catch this recent (December 4) piece in the The New York Times , it's worth a read. It features several notable cookiers (many members of this site) and talks about the evolution and dynamics of the "modern-day" cookie business here in the US, focusing a lot on friendships and connections forged online! Link here: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/1.../sugar-cookiers.html More power to cookiers, and congrats to all who were interviewed or mentioned, including...Read More...

How Do You Do It All?! Really!

Hi, everyone! I have been stalking and learning for quite some time now. I haven't had to write a post thus far, since my questions are usually answered after some searching. I have read on this particular topic a few different times, but I have to ask for myself, in my own way. How do you balance it all? I have a full-time job as a legal assistant and three school-aged kids. I want so badly to make a batch of cookies every night but by the time all other areas of life are handled, at least...Read More...

A Halloween Before and After

GoBakeItUp
So almost a year ago to the date, I decorated my very first sugar cookie. I became totally addicted to the process. Since then I've done cookies for almost every major holiday and some others just for fun. I just love everything about cookie decorating from designing, to baking, to decorating. I've made a TON of mistakes over the past year but practice makes perfect. My decorating skills still need improvement and, frankly, some of you Cookie Connection members out there just amaze me with...Read More...

As some of you may know, I've been traveling and teaching in Japan over the last week. These teaching experiences are memorable in SO many ways, but the biggest joy BY FAR is making real, live, face-to-face connections with Cookie Connection members. It's so wonderful to finally put faces to names, and to talk in person with those people I've grown to admire and appreciate from afar. This week, I've had the good fortune of meeting at least four Cookie Connection members...Read More...

Hi, all! I had a super fun time talking "extreme 3-D cookie decorating" on our local NBC affiliate today! Apart from the undesirably "extreme" closeups of my face, it's all in all a pretty good clip. However, I should clarify that 3-D cookies can and should be eaten, just not the months-old ones on the set that she asked to eat! (If you can't see the embedded video below for some reason, here's the link .) If you have your own fun and interesting news to share, I (and, I'm sure, others here)...Read More...

Julia in Cake Masters' New "Cookie Icon" Feature

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all! I'm thrilled to announce that I was recently interviewed for Cake Masters Magazine 's new "Cookie Icon" feature. It's wonderful to see the Cake Masters editors extending this traditionally cake-focused feature into cookies! Here's a link to my interview . (It's also a bit amusing to see they edited me into a Brit! Never in my life have I used the word "mum" for "mom"! ) The entire July 2018 issue is also available for purchase on the Cake Master s' site here .Read More...

Wedding Seating Card/Favor Cookies

IDA
My daughter married in March and we were looking for a clever way to create seating cards but in cookie form that could double as a favor for guests. I am by no means a "professional baker/decorator" but I can hold my own when it comes to creating cookies and I love a challenge. The hardest part for me was setting up the first name and table number on Microsoft Word but after that it was a breeze to print on edible wafer paper. Here is what I came up with for the more than 200 wedding guests...Read More...

Hi, Everyone!

Sandi Vanderwall
My name is Sandi Vanderwall, and I am brand new at this as of November 2017. My husband gave me an ADC airbrush system and some templates. I purchased many molds and love to airbrush cookies and then add fondant items. I just submitted 3 of my cookies today (6/6/18). I am retired and settling down in an awesome semi-retirement community. I also was one of the lucky ones to register for the 2018 CookieCon! I am very excited to be a part of Cookie Connection . Oh, and the name of my small...Read More...

Hi! So I picked up a second-hand set of cookie-cutters from a neighbour, and there is one I absolutely cannot figure out. The cutter were all very ordinary, mostly Christmas-themed, but with a few random shapes (a fish, a mushroom, a moon...) thrown in. Have any of you any idea of what this thing is supposed to be? The lady tried to convince me it was a bunny but I'm not sold. I kind of see a weasel dancing on its hind legs (upper left view)... Any ideas welcome, thanks!Read More...

Thank You

Manu
One evening of two years ago (Nov 2015) I found Julia M. Usher’s videos and discovered royal icing to decorate cookies. That evening I kept watching the series of her cookie decorating videos and the next days I caught up with all of them. I had so much to learn! I then found out Cookie Connection and signed up: that was the beginning of my cookie journey. I couldn’t have imagined to start writing my own tutorials for the site one year later. Surely I couldn’t have never imagined that two...Read More...

A Ton of Extra Cookies?

Kirsten
I am new to this whole cookie decorating thing but I LOVE it! t is so much fun BUT it requires a lot of practice and I have so much fun doing it that I don't want to stop . . . so my question is what do you all do with all of these cookies!? I think my family is pretty much sick of eating sugar cookies, and the employees that work for us will get sick at some point too I think. I just want to keep baking so I was wondering if any of you had some suggestions on what to do with all of the...Read More...

Greetings from France!

Annelise (Le bois meslé)
Hi there! I am a French archaeologist and discovered cookie decorating very recently, less than a month ago. I actually wanted to bake a thematic cake for my best friend's PhD defense, and while looking up designs online, found some incredible buttercream piping. I really wanted to try my hand at it, but I HATE buttercream with a passion, so I looked up alternatives and found cookie decorating, which I had literally never heard of before. A look at one of Julia's videos, and the revelation...Read More...

Hello from Norway

Snufs
Hello from Norway! I have a friend from the US who every Christmas has been nagging me to make sugar cookies. She has been asking over and over and over, "please make some for Christmas; they remind me of my childhood". I have never had time for it, and didn't know what treasure it was. For me it was just a cookie until I began to look at them on Pinterest. Ohh me ohh my - did I get a new hobby. Yes I did. As you can see I'm a beginner, and I want to learn. In general, I work with...Read More...

Hello There!

Hey, everyone! My name is JoAnn and I live in Southern CA. I caught the cookie decorating bug last Christmas when I made gingerbread cookies and was not satisfied with just icing them with pre-made royal icing in the tube. So I signed up for a beginners decorating class with some friends and I am hooked! I am still in the beginning stages compared to cookies on this site, but love it so much and have regular orders from family, friends, and coworkers. I am a teacher and started out by...Read More...
