Paper Quilling Effect with Royal Icing

Here just a short clip on how to do the paper quilling effect with royal icing using a turntable... short, because I think my longer version on facebook bored people to tears .

It's being done as transfers for accuracy reasons. The reinforcement with flood consistency icing after the first round (or second for larger designs) is necessary where the lines don't connect to prevent breakage, when moving the transfer onto a cookie or cake.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Thank you so very much for your beautiful comment, dear Carol 😘 🌹💖! It does take some practice too use a turntable and only one hand for piping, but it's a whole lot faster like this as the focus stays the same. So happy you like the spider 😊! Thanks again, my sweet friend!

It's just practice, dear Zara. It's much easier and faster using a turntable this way. Thank you so much ❤️ ❤️ ❤️!

Such a wonderful video. Every once in a while, I will pipe rows of lines on top of one another. I never thought about taking it further...but now I have.

Thanks so much, dear Christine 😘 🌹 ❣️ I look forward to seeing where you will take this 😀!

Hi Sonja, @iSugarfy (aka swissophie)    Thank you for the template.  I have practiced a couple of times.  Very difficult for me, especially the body of spider.  I am not good at piping roundly...  I thought because of my turntable that moves not smoothly.  I tried this way and that way.  It really needs tons of practice to make the spider beautifully like you who have great skills.

Hi Ryoko @Ryoko ~Cookie Ave.! I'm really happy you tried this technique, and yes, it does take practice, but that's the point of me supplying the template  . I think you did really well already ❤️❤️❤️.

One tip I can give you is this: Use an icing consistency that doesn't easily break. You have to get the feel for that. If it breaks easily, you have to add more stiff icing.

But if it breaks once in a while even with a correct RI consistency (just because accidents do happen by for instance turning the table a bit too fast),  then you can reconnect the icing by wiggling the new icing that comes out of your icing bag against the end of the broken-off icing. That will "heal" the connection and you will not see it, or much less.

I hope this is clear. I will show this in one of my future videos. But if it doesn't work well for you, then take a very lightly moistened brush (dip it in water, and wipe it off on a paper towel twice to get the excess water out) and smoothen the connection with the brush.

I hope this helps!

Have a great start into the week, my dear friend!

Thank you, Sonja.  I think I understand but if you show us in your future videos, that will help me a lot.  Probably, if I practice with a bigger tip then after that smaller tip like #1, that might help?  I enlarge your template and practice with a bigger tip again.

Thank you again.

It might help, but can't be sure. It didn't help me with the knitting to go bigger, haha! But just try. It's the only way to find out . Good luck!
