Tomorrow (25th April) is Anzac Day in Australia. For those that aren't familiar, it's an annual day of remembrance of the landing at Gallipoli (WWI), as well as a day of respect for all those who have served. The red poppy is one of the symbols of Anzac day along with the purple ribbon, and it's very common to see wreaths of red poppies adorned with purple ribbons (and the phrase: "Lest We Forget") at Anzac services here. Since I've been wanting to make a wreath cookie for a while now, I figured this was the perfect time to do so.
