I grew up surrounded by my grandmother’s Chinese brush paintings and am now lucky enough to have several of them on the walls of my home. Here I tried to recreate one of her paintings.

First I flooded the cookie with pink for the blossoms and a neutral “canvas” color. Once dry, I painted a few strokes of dark pink into the blossoms so it’s not so flat in appearance. Then I used a food marker for the black lines within the blossoms. I premade a royal-icing-transfer bird. The branches were piped on.
