For this week's food distribution donation I wanted to do a Father's Day theme.  I wanted to be sensitive to people who may not be able to celebrate in the way they either wanted to or have in the past.  So I opted for a "cool dude" theme.
I realize that this is a cookies design most of us have seen a zillion times.  It is really dictated by the cookie cutter.  Given that, I was shocked at how well received it was!  The recipients acted as though I had just spun gold.  I guess it's a good reminder that sometimes what is common to cookiers can still bring joy to others.

In addition to that reminder, the learning point for me this week was again with the use of royal icing transfers.  I did all of the lenses ahead of time.  They were extremely easy to do.  Some are a bit wonky but no more so than if I would have applied them directly. (There were 150 after all!) Having that part ready to go really expedited the decoration process and the amount of time I had to keep the cookies exposed.  It also resulted in zero bleed from the black lenses.

I started out doing more complex designs for the frames but, given the amount of extra time it was taken - and WOULD take for 150 - I decided to scrap the fancy designs and stick with solid colors.  I think it turned out to be the right decision because I was finished early and incredibly relaxed!sunglass close-up

Way to go!  Thank you for sharing what you learned.  I'm loving the use of transfers too.

Thank you @E. Sherwood.  Royal icing transfers have become a revelation for me recently.  I have used them for years for flowers, dots and small attachments.  Moving into these largely pieces has been an amazing time saver (and helps keep me from getting bored!)

What great summer fun Lisa . I love the wonderful sunglasses @LisaF!! You are one sweet and smart lady my dear ❤️... RI transfers, a wonderful thing!

Thank you my friend @Cookies Fantastique.  They were actually surprisingly fun to do! The royal icing transfers help spread out the work load so it keeps it from feeling monotonous.  I can also pause, do something else  and then return to making the transfers without fear of drying out the cookies.

So wonderful of you to keep up such high-level donations. Congrats!

Thank you so much Julia @Julia M. Usher .  Your cookie recipes have been a huge hit.  I've mixed it up with variations involving zests, coriander, cardamom and clove.  I always provide a list of the ingredients in case of allergies. I get a chuckle each time I hear "very fancy!" when a not so usual spice is listed.

SO glad to hear that you're making my "fancy" variations! I love the orange-clove myself!
