I like the transfer technique... and the whales!!!

Size: 12 cm

MINI TUTORIAL

Using blue stiff-consistency royal icing.

Step 1 - Waves
a)
Grease it thinly to silicone baking paper. Let the icing dry.
b) Break it to optional sizes.

Step 2 - Ocean and spume/froth
a)
Spread the blue royal icing to silicone paper ringwise (about 2-3 mm thick).
Grease the white layer thinly on it.
b) After the white royal icing dried, crease the 'ocean' with palette knife or spatula.

Step 3 - Cookie
Let the gingerbread be smaller than the ocean transfer.

Step 4 - Ocean base
1-2 cm thick.

Step 5 - Arrangement

Step 6 - Composition
Fit the 'broken waves' into the ocean base.

Such interesting textures! Can you give us a little explanation as to how you made each texture, and how much of this piece is layered royal icing vs. layered cookies? For instance, are there more cookies involved other than the one we can see peeking out at the very bottom? Thanks!

This is absolutely captivating. That deep dark blue is so moody and perfect, especially with all of the many, many different textures. All of the little bits of white here and there are judiciously used and expertly placed. And that whale transfer is fantastic. Thank you for the mini tutorial. This is a brilliant addition to the challenge!
