First attempt at "real" roses. Not as awesome as Maggie Morrison's first attempt! I learned a few things from the suggested videos that helped a lot.

1) Consistency is very important (Had to redo mine and start again)

2) I need to rotate my toothpick counter-clockwise. It just worked better for me.

3) I let the center bud and first 3 petals set up a bit before adding more petals. Maybe my icing was still a bit too soft.

Thanks for the challenge. I needed the little push to try them and I'll definitely be practicing these more. The roses aren't as perfect as Teri Pringle Wood's, but her beautiful designs inspire me to keep going. The guests at our Swedish colors party gushed about them and then gobbled them up! 

Great first attempt! Yeah, I use a super thick icing to avoid having to allow petals to dry in between. It's very close to my "glue" consistency, which I talk about in my videos and in the icing recipe on my site. But they look great to me!

FABULOUS!!!!  These are amazing!  Look at how much you learned on just your first attempt!  I can only imagine how much more stunning your roses will be 12 attempts from now.  And please do not compare your roses to others.  The point of the challenge is to challenge YOURSELF.  And at that, you have succeeded tremendously!  I am sure even Teri would tell you that her roses are beautiful because she has probably made hundreds, if not thousands, of them!  And you are very right about icing consistency.  Like Julia, I find that the icing has to be quite thick.
