Pine, bamboo and Japanese plum are the icons for happy occasions. I decorate pine on the cloth of Lion Dance, bamboo on Spiced Sake pot and Japanese plum which is coming out from the pot. Lion dance is also for celebration and spiced sake is served on New Year Day with black or red japanned pot.

If your first dream of this year has Mr. Fuji, a hawk or an eggplant, something good is going to happen to you, it is said so in Japan.
I decorate Mr. Fuji in the cup for Spiced Sake specially served on New Year day, a hawk on battledore and the hawk carrying an eggplant.

May this year bring lots of happiness to you

Happy New Year, Anne Marie.   If you see Mt. Fuji in your dream, that's the best.   Probably we have seen Mr. Fuji, a hawk or eggplant but we just do not remember.

So beautiful again, Ryoko - the cookies and the story! I can't remember what was my dream last night, but I'm afraid it wasn't Mr. Fuji

Hi Zara.   Even in Japan I have not met a person whose first dream was Mt. Fuji or they just do not want to tell to hold their luck.

We all are going to have a great year if we bake cookies and cakes.

Very nice, Ryoko, and I love the stories and the tradition behind your cookies.

We still do a lot of traditional things.   If you come to Japan at a right time, you are going to experience many things.

I love the story behind your cookies, Ryoko. You always do a wonderful job of bringing your images to life!

Thank you, Christine.   I hope your first dream was Rocky Mountains instead of Mt. Fuji.  Something high must be good.
