Jewels Dressing Table Set

A little on this one. I had been reading about microwaving boiled sweets so I thought I would try the only ones I could get, a local sweet. If they did NOT melt, then they stayed in crystal form as shown on the back of the mirror and on the Fleur de Lis brooch, just clumping together. However if they did bubble and 'melt', they continued to liquify - The pear perfume bottle was quite wet and indeed dribbled over the edges - made for a very sticky cookie!. Sitting for a few days they did go dull, but after gilding the edges (gold luster+scotch) I gave them a glaze of Glycose Syrup+water (it dried!) which brought back the shine.
Interesting experiments.

Thanks! It certainly was fun! And when else can we take time to try these things? I like to try stuff in my own pantry/local shops first before I order in.. You just never know do you...

Thanks Beat and Bake - Yes that's what I love about experiments - finding out what works ad what doesn't. The melted sweets I Pulled into the pear shape - it was like working with taffy!!

Hi Barb, funnily enough No. they are smashed up, microwaved and although they clumped together, they are more a soft crunch, and quite sticky chewy. I'm going to try again soon on another project.. (ps they smell divine!)
