Hi Lori! Please try this trick: pipe your cookies with white top coating and let them dry in front of a fan with warm temperature for at least one hour. Paint them the day after, thanks to warm air icing becomes like porcelain not porous at all. I use Americolor gel colors and water, just a few if needed, not alcohol.  Let me know if these advices worked out ❤
