Wow! These look great - what a tremendous amount of work too! Are the boxes also cookies covered with fondant? And is that wafer paper for the box filler? Clever! (And the photo is great too! )

Yes the boxes are covered with fondant.  I used royal icing first it looked too sloppy.  The boxes are rather larger and I had a difficult time getting the icing to stay consistent on all sides.  The filler is wafer paper but beneath the wafer paper is rice krispy cereal which provided more support for the ornaments.

Woah, Lisa! This is some amazing work! Is this all edible? Wonderful idea, too ❤️❤️❤️!

Thank you so much!  Yes, it is all edible.  It's primarily decorated gingerbread.  Rice krispies and marshmallows are in the base of the boxes, then the wafer paper. The ornament strings are licorice.

So clever. Now, is this monumental work for your family, or for some other occasion?! Just curious! Whomever gets it will be overjoyed!

It is actually for a gingerbread competition in St. Michaels Maryland where we have a part-time home. It will be auctioned off for charity so it will be a part of someone’s Christmas decorations!! My (very patient) family just got the explosion of sugar left in its wake.
