Fear not! As with any type trade or profession, much of it is knowing and learning techniques and having the right tools. You'll be amazed at what you can do, just PRACTICE - PRACTICE - PRACTICE!!! Some people are naturally brilliant and some of us have to work a little harder at it. We all have a different style which is what is SO incredibly amazing about this site. Put your work out there, ask for constructive guidance. I'm a beginner myself. We can do this!! (You won't find a lot of my work here, I'm what they call "technologically challenged" so posting things is harder for me than most. But I'm learning!!)

Okay, I can pray to be as good as any of you.  lol  This tells me to not even consider trying to get in on the contests.  lol

I am also doing this for a short time and learning and far far from brilliant myself. Donna, they are simple flowers made with fondant and molds.  If someone takes the mystery out of something it becomes easy. The cutter is the Xmas wreath cutter and the flowers are from Blossom Sugar Art. If you ever need any help just ask. If I can help I will love to. <3

And remember--they are challenges, not contests. The winner is chosen by raffle, I believe.

Thank you Tina and LeeAnn for the encouraging words.  (Smiling.)  I am an older woman.  I marvel at the work I see displayed...  I do practice a lot - getting better at it.  I get lost in design lol  hhahahhahaaaaaaaa   Disasters!!

Older than me? I don't think so. I am going to have my 59th in a few weeks. Cookies became a soothing time filler after a very difficult time for me. I love working with my hands and this is just perfect for me. What makes me stick with it is all the love in the cookies community that befriended and encouraged me. <3 Practice makes perfect!!!!!

I am anxiously waiting to see some of your work!!!! Bring it on! <3

Tina, these cookies didn't exist when I was growing up.  I only know about a cookie.  lol  I've been in baking/pastry classes, took wilton classes, etc.  I can bake delicious desserts.  I get lost in what to do with a cookie.  I know what and how to do, have "tools", but it seems I cannot do what I know how to do.  I fail in applying my knowledge.  wahwahwahhhhh  lol  I don't give up though.

How can I help you get started? Fall is coming. Do you have leaf cutters? Bake some cookies and look at some of the work here on CC make some RI in different shades and start cookie by cookie, outlining , filling and adding simple touches.  Every journey begins with the 1st step!
