Two-Day Spring Cookie Baking and Decorating Course with Julia at Wilton

Take your cookie decorating skills to new levels with cookie artist Julia M. Usher in this two-day, spring-themed cookie baking and decorating course. During the first day, students will bake all of the cookies needed to make a gorgeous flower-filled 3-D basket and one to two 2-D cookies featuring piped needlepoint and stamped appliqué decorations. In addition to learning how to contour, emboss, and mold cookies on Day One, students will gain hands-on experience mixing royal icing and adjusting it to the proper consistency for various tasks. On Day Two, the decorating fun begins with lessons on edible cake lace, edible papers, piped roses, 2-D royal icing transfers, needlepoint, stamping, modeling chocolate and fondant appliqués, dusting, painting, and more! The class concludes with instruction in 3-D construction and the assembly of the basket!

Each student will make:
1. One 3-D spring basket, decorated with edible lace and a personalized name plate, and filled with royal icing flowers (not the eggs shown in the photo)
2. One 2-D cookie with stamped and dusted (or painted) appliqués
3. One 2-D hand-piped needlepoint cookie (as time permits)

How many people in the class.  It looks fascinating!  Is there a hotel near by?

Usually 20-25 or so; they have a big space so they can accommodate more than is typical. Though the class can't go much higher, or it will get hard for me to handle. Yes, plenty of hotels nearby (I have to stay in one!), but the Wilton people can help you better with hotel recommendations and all details of that sort. I hope you can make it.

I’m on the fence because I’ll be coming flying from Sacramento and won’t have a car to get around.  It looks like the hotels are miles away.  When i was at CookieCon the time change caused me lots of problems.

The hotel I stayed in was about 10 minutes away by car.

Hey! That's in my neck of the woods! (Chicago.)

Great! I hope I'll get to see you then! Will you be coming?

I hope to...that registration fee Wilton charges is a bit intense. I definitely want to do the fall one, so I might wait until then. Not sure yet. I want to do both, though! <3  Your work is amazing, and I'm guessing that your classes are as engaging and fun as you are on this website! <3

Thanks! Yeah, I understand, but they have to commit to pay my travel before I even get there, so they want to make sure people are committed to the classes when they sign up. I'm sure they've learned the hard way by people canceling at the last minute; that can cost them dearly, and also their out-of-town guests if they then have to cancel the class. Anywho, I sincerely hope you can make it - it's going to be a very fun class, especially with baking involved too.

As an FYI, I live in the Chicago area...there are hotels nearby and the Uber and Lyft networks are very active throughout the entire region. It shouldn't cost too much to utilize them. Particularly if you plan ahead for enough time and "share" a ride. Just a thought. And maybe after the trip there, you can find a classmate headed in the same direction for which you might be able to get a ride.

Thanks.  I’ve decided to not make any decision until after my surgery next week.  It’s a long way for me to travel and I’m hoping I feel much better after I recover.

Agree with @Lindy, insofar as the hotels are pretty close (4-ish miles or 10 minutes for Aloft, the one where I stayed, with lots of restaurants also within walking distance of that hotel). And it's heavily populated, so there's no shortage of Uber, cabs, etc. In addition, there is the possibility of a discounted shuttle from Aloft if you show your Wilton class receipts. Below is the info that Wilton provides on their site and/or if you call in to ask about hotels (see last paragraph about shuttle). But, I get it if your surgery makes this all prohibitive for you, though I would love to see you there. Best of luck with the surgery!

Thanks for the info.  My energy has been off and after they remove my gall bladder I should feel much better and get my energy back.  Then it will be easier to commit.
