Muted Colors?

I've seen such beautiful muted colors in other cookies before but no matter what i do i can't seem to get this effect in my colors . are there any tips for this? aside from just using a little bit of the color your using . It almost looks like there is another color added if that makes any sense i just can't quite figure it out lol
