Hi, everyone! I have been back from my Australia teaching trip for a week, and am still catching up on sleep, LOL. Yes, it was a long trip to and fro, but it was worth it - especially to see students and fellow instructors in the flesh after two years of working in isolation. In addition to the long travel (close to 40 hours on the way back!), it wasn't an easy trip for another reason. Perhaps you heard: Brisbane had record-level rain (and floods, sadly), and the humidity and temperature in the classroom (97%, 75 to 80°F) created some huge decorating challenges. That being said, I believe that my students and I are better decorators for having had to work through these weather obstacles together. You'd never know we were challenged from the first photo below where everyone is smiling, but the second photo is evidence that I am not exaggerating! Yes, that's a dipped hemisphere cookie that had been "drying" for nearly 24 hours. Normally, it would be set and shiny within a few hours, like the dome in my assembled ornament in the third photo. In all of my double-digit years of decorating, I have never seen anything like it . . .
Anywho, thanks for patiently waiting for Spotlights as I was "weathering" this recent adventure. Judging from the cookie photos in this week's hot list* (which look great!), I trust that your last couple of weeks were fraught with far fewer decorating struggles than I had! Yay for that!
