For this cookie (9x9 cm) I used good old plain white fondant as my canvas, and painted with a mixture of edible paint and gel colour.

I didn't really have any ideas in mind when I started this (I decided just to experiment), all I knew was I wanted it to be bright and colourful.

On a few occasions I thought I'd ruined it, so I basically just kept adding more and more colour until I was happy.

Originally I wasn't happy with the gold details. The gold was, well....too gold. So I mixed up the same gold paint with black food colouring, which created a darker more brassy gold. I then used a brush soaked in cake decorating alcohol to wipe some of that back off to achieve a worn/antique look.

I originally used a stencil to emboss sections of the background (as you can see in the top left corner) but those details ended up mostly lost.

For the two flowers, I painted a separate piece of fondant in the same colours/abstract approach as the background of the cookie. I then painted the flowers over the top in black and cut them out/added them to the cookie to give it some dimension/layers.

Awesome work Ashlee!!! @Ashlee McCabe . This is absolutely gorgeous...love that you "winged it" with this design . There are times when I also do that with mixed results (no big surprise there). Other times when I've researched, planned, drawn, etc. the cookie hasn't turned out like I originally envisioned it. Oh well...so it goes when you work in an artistic field like this. Either way it's totally fun โค๏ธโค๏ธ.

I often wing it when I'm not feeling any creative juices flowing at all...I'm hoping that inspiration will pop into my head along the way. LOL. Your cookie is fabulous!!

I know what you mean Carol @Cookies Fantastique. I typically like to have a plan, because without one I tend to spend far longer on a cookie. But even with a plan, as you said, sometimes things still don't work out. I'm sure we've all got more than a few cookies under our belts that didn't work out/don't see the light of day.

I was actually having a bit of a creative "block" prior to this challenge, so it's really pushed me to try new things.

As always, thanks for your kind words โค๏ธ

This is gorgeous! I love the layering of all of the different patterns and painting styles, like the botanical and floral patterns over the brush strike background. I really like that brassy color that you achieved. The thing I really love about painting, which you illustrate perfectly, is that you can do and redo painted elements many times over, unlike piping! And thank you for telling us about your process. It was fascinating to get into your creative brain!

Thanks so much @Bakerloo Station. I've really been enjoying this challenge, so thank you for setting it
