Lettering and Intricate Designs - Any Tools/Tips?

Hi there!

I am new to cookie decorating and I have a few questions regarding lettering and intricate designs.

What tool works better for small designs (or is your preference) - piping bags or squeeze bottles?
I’ve noticed that a lot of people do not use piping tips at the end of their bags. Is there a specific reason for this? Does it make it easier or affect the outcome of the design?
Any tips/tricks for a first timer?
