The Sweetest Tiers posted this clip of linked hearts back in 2016 01 09. They say they were linked after baking. Is there a way to find out more detail? Cut when warm and overlapped?  Opening cut in one cookie and icing glued together?

Hello Sylvianne @Sylvianne
To me this definitely looks like it was brought together after baking. An opening cut should not be enough. I think that a heart of it was separated and baked in the middle and then "only" the interface was straightened and glued together. I think that's a really cool idea! Especially when the hearts are connected, then to provide one heart with icing ...! She could also have placed it on something so that she got a flat surface and the already finished heart somehow "hung" down. With this one the icing was already fixed.
At least that's how I would want to approach the matter: Could it be a topic for the challenge ?!
I find such ideas really exciting, beautiful and creative !! Sorry for my english!! I hope, you understand me?!

Your English is fine. It’s my imagination that has trouble.  So we have two outlines of hearts.  They are hollow. You are saying only one needs to be cut open to allow the second heart to intersect.  Ok I got that. But how to close that gap? Unless it remains open but is hidden in the picture.  You could slip the cookie off instead of eating the two dangling together.  Otherwise, how to close the gap?  Thanks for answering.

I'll try pictures. That is easier. IMG_0292IMG_0293IMG_0294

I am tagging @The Sweetest Tiers so that she sees this post. That's the best thing to do if you have a specific question of a specific member (or private message or email the person through his/her contact info on his/her member profile.)

Ohh now I get it @Icingsugarkeks.  Lol. That is a good idea to use paper to explain.

Julia, the comments on TheSweetTiers had ended with someone asking about a tutorial and the responses ended there so I took it to mean that perhaps they weren’t inclined to divulge their technique.  True, it is more efficient and direct to contact them. But I considered the 5 year time delay too.  Will do next time.

Thanks for both of you and your quick responses. I’m going to try this just for the fun.

Oh, I'm curious! Will you show it when it's done ??
Perhaps another tip:
I think the cookies should be quite large, but thin, and the hole in the middle should also be quite large, so that the cookies that are connected later have a certain leeway.
This is how it could work. @Sylvianne

Sorry, my bad again. I just wanted you to be aware of our tagging and private messaging features, as I wasn't sure you were. Some people never come back to answer questions on their posts here. It may not be because they don't want to help; they could just not have set themselves up to receive notifications on their posts, so they have no idea a questions was asked. Usually, I have good success when I use the emails on profiles - that's all.

Not a bad at all, Julia.  You are a very thorough person which is what makes you outstanding at what you do. In fact, I have contacted contributees often from their posts and was going to give you the feedback that it is such a wonderful, sharing group of people on your site.  That is directly as a result of the spirit of the host behind it - you.  I find many sites are displeasingly commercial but not yours. The main focus, I feel is to grant access to knowledge!  A high calling indeed.  @Icingsugarkeks I will do this experiment but I warn you.   My experiments can be wildly enthusiastic and a hot mess to the same degree.  Lol. Speaking of experiments, I’m working on leprechaun houses today (?) an idea I woke up with one day.  Good day to all.

I’m sorry for the late response!
the linked heart cookies were achieved as follows:

bake your two cookies and immediately after they come out of the oven make a one inch cut in one cookie. I did it where I pictured the linking would cover it up. I didn’t want more than 1 inch cut because a larger piece joined may not be as stable.

I Decorated the solid cookie and left it to dry overnight. The next day I linked the two cookies and used royal icing to glue the cut cookie closed.
you want to have your cookies elevated and supported. let the glued cookie dry for at least 3-4 hours to make sure it’s dry.

to decorate the glued cookie you want to elevate it while supporting the finished cookie upright.
I chose a simple design because it’s tricky decorating the glued cookie under the finished cookie.
hope this helps.

Oh, so sorry dear Julia, I don't understand the meaning (the English) here. Should I have replied to a private message? Or do you mean that in general? 🤔 @Julia M. Usher

So sorry, I meant to respond to your sweet message sooner, but have been extremely busy. I really appreciate all you said (THANK YOU! ), and I am glad you feel as you do about the site, because creating a place to learn and grow is really its primary/only objective. I make no direct money off the site; only ancillary sales from events/products that I promote here from time to time. Yet, the site costs me quite a bit of hard cash (plus time) each month to maintain, so some promotion of events /products here is needed to keep it running. Good luck with the leprechaun houses - I am eager to see them!

My comment was directed to Sylvianne, not you. No action for you to take.
