My royal icing has been falling off my cookie after a couple days of it drying. My cookie isn't soft so I was wondering if there was any way I could prevent sheeting. I mix it in my KitchenAid but on a low setting for not very long. Thank you!

Hi, I've only ever had this happen after the cookies had sat for weeks or months under very dry winter conditions. It sounds like you're overbaking or over-drying the icing, and/or storing them under extremely dry conditions. Are you dehydrating them to set the icing? If so, maybe don't do this and/or bake your cookies for a shorter time, and/or introduce some moisture into your ambient environment (run a humidifier?).

I’ve never heard of this.  When people have trouble with their royal icing I  tell them to try genies meringue powder. It’s a product of creative cookier and available from amazon.  It solved my problems.  Good luck!

It happens when cookies and icing get too dry; the icing separates from the cookie and comes off in one piece. I think it has nothing to do with the brand of icing used.

I have a recipe for lemon stars. In this recipe, the applied RI is also baked. In fact only baked for a long time and lukewarm so that it doesn't burn. So the cookies are not baked properly. They taste great, but these cookies actually tend to lose the RI. In this case it looks like the cookie, which is still "oily", does not connect properly to the RI. Maybe that will help? Maybe the side of your cookie was very fatty? I'm looking for a picture once because I had baked these cookies for Christmas too. Maybe you can see it ...?

Or it could be your icing (above) was over-dried (due to the baking of it), which caused it to separate from your cookie. This would be more consistent with my experience that: as cookies sit and the cookie/icing dry out, it's more likely that sheeting will occur.
