3D Gingerbread Easter Basket _ swissophie
A bit late for Easter, but at least it's finished now, my gingerbread basket. It has undergone many drying phases, because all roses are wet-on-wet, and had to do the inside in many small sections.

Thank you for your kind comment, Maria! You can see videos about the different techniques on Youtube. But I never have made any videos, as I'm lacking the know-how. Plus I don't feel qualified, yet, as I'm fairly new to cookie decorating as well (since last November), and still have much to learn myself. Thanks again so much!!!

Sonja... this is stunningly beautiful! So, you really made a basket out of gingerbread dough and then baked it? I don't know if I am more surprised for the perfection of the basket or for all the ruffles of the fabric and the wet-on-wet roses... or I don't know if I shouldn't be surprised at all after your "knitted cookies"! All of your works look so perfect and real. So much work (and I am sure lot of fun) so worth the result! Love it!

Thanks so much, Manu!

The basic shape of the basket was baked. The basket look, the weaving itself, is piped.

There are a few flaws, like the second inside section ran off on me and stretched the roses! I'm still having troubles balancing the roses, too, because they tend to move around on me .  So had to balance them afterwards with the small dots. Then I "weaved" it first and broke a few "twigs" that were too stretched, while I was doing the inside, and had to redo them. And while taking the pics, I broke a bow, haha!

If there is a next time, I'll definitely start with the inside! But when I started, I really didn't have a concept in mind, just wanted to try out. Didn't even know whether the basic form would hold in the oven, but obviously it did .

Thanks a lot for your lavish comment. I appreciate it even more, since it comes from a master cookie decorator !

I know exactly what you mean when you say you "didn't have a concept in mind" and I think this adds fun. I loved to read about the steps of your work.

Thank you so much, Fabiana! Yes, it took a while . But mainly because I didn't really have a concept. I think next time it would go much faster. Thanks so much for your compliments, and greetings from home !

That is insane! What part is cookie, what icing, what fondant??? You say the roses are wet-on-wet, how did you get the folds on the outside if it is icing? Or if it is fondant, how did you make wet-on-wet on it???

Thank you, Laegwen! The main part of the basket and the handles are gingerbread, the ruffles and the bows are fondant. I made the ruffles in small sections and glued them on top of each other, always a fold onto a flat part to cover the edge. This way I was able to keep the RI thick enough for it to stick on top of the folds. If you notice, the roses are only in the "valleys" and once in a while a leaf pulled up onto the tops.

Ah! So the ruffles are fondant covered with icing. Very clever and the effect is totally stunning.

Oberaffengeil!!!

Omg, haven't heard that expression in years, haha! Thanks !
