For this challenge, stringwork, initially I have planned to make 3 entries: One big piece, some small pieces and 3D.

One big piece is โ€œThrobbing Heart, Valentineโ€™s Dayโ€

Some small pieces are โ€œFlowersโ€

And the last one is this, โ€œEaster Eggโ€

I watched the class โ€œElevated Oriental Stringwork with Toba Garrettโ€ and โ€œMastering Australian Stringwork with Mark Seamanโ€ on Craftsy.   I bought these classes some years ago since they are very beautiful but I havenโ€™t seriously watched or tried till this Challenge because I didnโ€™t think I could do.  Thanks to the challenge, I watched both classes very carefully.   The recipe of icing by Toba Garrett and Mark Seaman are different, I just stick to the recipe of my first entry to this challenge: Egg white and sugar powder with cornstarch in it.

The size of my cookie is 11x11cm (4.33 x 4.33 inch)

  1. I cut out half egg shape from my brand new silicon mold after I read what Samantha of Aproned Artist does. https://cookieconnection.julia...-artist-moon-landing I have never thought that I would cut my moldโ€ฆ. but if I didnโ€™t, I wondered how I could make this eggโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜จ   I put very thin shortening on the surface of mold so the dried icing would come out very easily.
  2. I used PME tip No. 1 and 2 but the egg was too delicate and broken when I took them out from the mold so I made another one with PME tip No. 2 and 3. Most of the photos were taken while I was making the first egg with the tip No. 1 and 2 , but the procedure is same with tip No. 2 and 3.
  3. I made the guide on the paper to make straight lines but for me to make 3D egg (actually a half egg at a time) these lines on the paper didnโ€™t work as I hoped.

I made rhombus line first on the mold then longitudinal and horizontal linesegg1

piped at tilts

egg2

more lines to secure the side and make the rhombus clear

egg3 halfeggs

This is my cookie part and circle in the center is to hold the egg

Now I looked at my egg carefully and I think the joint part of two half eggs could be done with more strings.  I couldnโ€™t think anything but not to break them to adhere two of them actually.

Thank you, Samantha.  I really needed extra strong determination to cut out my silicon mold.  ๐Ÿคฃ  Thank you for your tutorial, otherwise I couldn't make this egg.

LOL - I've been cutting my molds apart for years for all that dough shaping I do in my videos. I have bags of tiny molds all cut apart! No sweat.

This is stunning, Ryoko! Your design is well thought out, complex, and very unique. I love the all-white design; all I notice is the beauty of the stringwork. Did you find all those intersecting lines gave your piece extra strength?

Christine, I had some other design but I thought this design would be strong enough to hold the shape.  I saw construction of big building with rebar and concrete, I believed this intersecting lines should work.  (I don't have any knowledge of construction, though)

What I know is that  tip No. 1 is not strong enough for this size of egg.   If I add something to make RI stronger, tip No. 1 might work, too.  But I couldn't find what I should add, I just changed the tip to No. 2.

Thanks, that makes sense. I do like the tip No. 2 thickness. It seems to really suit the design.

This is beyond incredible work dear Ryoko @Ryoko ~Cookie Ave.!!! I just love how the entire challenge entry is stringwork with the exception of the base. Such a great idea to create a grid on paper underneath the silicone mold while you were piping. I love all the information you included in your explanation of how you made this wonderful entry. I'm STILL working on my entry but missed the deadline because of a foot injury that kept me from working at all for 2 weeks.

I love the dimension of the rhombus. Such a great idea to include the different types of stringwork in your entry. Once again your work is over the top gorgeous my dear cookie friend โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ Hugs...

Carol, first of all how's your foot??    Can you walk?  Less pain now?
I hope your stringwork cookie (s) can be seen soon, too.  I look forward to it!

Thank you so much for your comment.  After so many piping, now I have less fear piping straight, well I think they are straight ๐Ÿ˜…

Hi Ryoko!!! Thank you for your thoughtful comment โค๏ธ. Foot is still crummy but I'm doing better every day...you are so very sweet to ask . I can't make much progress  but I'm still at it for 1-3 hours each day. I'm hoping it will be finished this weekend or early part of next week. Yay!!

Oh I can only imagine the time it took to do all the piping on your Easter egg. The finished egg is definitely worth the time and effort. It's so very beautiful my dear friend @Ryoko ~Cookie Ave. I'm always excited to see what cookie creations you post here! You are very talented and so creative โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ Hugs...
