The butterfly is made of colored Isomalt, not hand painted. Each shade Isomalt was filled into royal icing outlines drop by drop. The wings are only about 1mm thin, and it was hard to keep the colors where I wanted them.... some spilled over. Still happy with the result, though .

Oh how stunning Sonja!! I love the cut out of the butterfly on the cookie that exactly matches the butterfly design . Such intricate work, as always. Wow! I was working with isomalt yesterday and thought of you . Your skill and tenacity with this medium is truly amazing. I tried a few things with the isomalt and found my fingers being burned (saying "ow" a lot ) more often than I would have liked. Lol. This is gorgeous work ❤️❤️❤️

This is incredible! I wish I could be a little mouse in your kitchen so I could watch you work on all those beautiful details. Did you use a pipette for the butterfly? Because every time I work with isomalt I seem to be too clumsy to get it smaller amount where I want them. And as Cookies Fantastique by Carol I tend to burn my fingers a lot.

Thanks so much for your darling comment, Carol @Cookies Fantastique ❤️❤️❤️!!! Yes, Isomalt is not gentle on skin in its way! A couple of 3rd degree and other little burns later, I'm slowly developing the necessary respect ! But for me it's been worth it. I derive so much pleasure from working with it. Thanks again, sweet friend!!!

Love mice... You'd be very welcome !

A pipette might be a good idea, too, for slightly larger areas and thickness, but it would give less control of the drop size. For these fine details, I use just my scribe tool, picking up tiny drops at the time, letting them fall where I need them to be. It takes a really steady hand, and a lot of practice to know what temperature the Isomalt has to be in to do this: not warm enough, and it will pull fine hair strings that can ruin your work; too hot, and the drops will roll off the scribe needle too fast before you have time to position them over your work. And yes, Isomalt commands respect, or it will make us suffer!

Thanks so much for your kind comment @sweetlife ❤️!

Thank you very much, Ewa ❤️❤️❤️! I will make an Isomalt tutorial/video some time in the future, but right now I really can't. Videos especially take a long time to do...
