Hi Julia, my name is Annmarie Cefalu,  and I think you are amazing.  I'm new to this site, but I do have your book. I have always wanted to be a pastry chef.  But unfortunately,  about 14 years ago I had a swimming accident.  It took 2 years of operations and therapy to recover. After that, I got engaged and I was going back to work for the first time since I got hurt. Once again, unfortunately a lady ran the light, hit me head on. Now I'm disabled.

I suffered another broken vertebrate.  Witch lead , we'll I think you have the picture. To top things off my fiancé left me as I was getting a blood transfusion.  It was 8 months before our wedding. Anyway, thank God for my family.  I'm still living with my parents .

My dad God bless him is 88 he is amazing.  Mom's 82, but not doing well. I'm so close to my parents, as well as my brother and sister. Unfortunately, I want to bake and decorated cookies all the time. But I have a very hard time walking. I am now walking with a walker. It gets really hard, to bake. I have no feeling in my feet as well as the lower part of my legs.

So you can imagine how hard it is to take cookies out of the oven. The last time I baked I ended up on the floor with a hot cookie sheet. I love your work so much. My dad sees how I struggle, especially when I bake. Even though this is true, I still hope that one day, I might be able to have a small out of house business.

I would even do it on the holidays,  and give my artwork desserts to the church, and any other charity's.  I'm on disability, unfortunately I do not get very much each month. But since I can not afford to go to school, even the online baking courses are so expensive. I'm so sorry Julia, I didn't mean to tell you my life story. All I want to do is learn, and grow. I wish to God that I could be as amazing as you and all the bakers on this site.

I really wanted you to know how much I admire you and the bakers on site. I'm hoping that I can learn from from all of you.okay, I really took up to much of your time. If you or anyone could have any ideas for me. I would welcome them all with open arms as well as an open heart. If I don't hear from you soon, I wish everyone a very happy and healthy holiday.

I will be baking and doing some cookie art this season. I just hope that I can finish them.thank you so much for having this site. I love it, I just have to learn how to use it. Lol. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi, Annmarie, Welcome to the site and thank you so much for the very kind words! I am so glad you're here. I am very sorry to hear about your string of hardships, but you sound like a courageous woman who is moving forward to pursue her dreams  - and that's incredibly admirable. Many others in your circumstances probably wouldn't do the same.

As far as learning from this site, there's a lot here, so I encourage you just to dive in and start reading blog tutorials and asking people about the images they post. To get a quick lay of the land, please visit the Site FAQ (under About), which explains where different types of content can be found and posted on this site. Moreover, enjoy what you find here!

Happy holidays!

Julia, I just LOVE the 3D Retro Oven! I will be making this for a friend of mine who sells cookies in a Retro Oven Box, this will blow his mind. I only have 1 question? Where's the tutorial of the Checkerboard Floor? I've tried to follow the links, but get nowhere. Have a Merry Christmas or Holiday, May God Bless you with good health, happiness, and Mucho Dinero!

LOL (about the mucho dinero part - I wish!)! I don't have a full-blown tutorial on the floor, though I have a short video that I did on it which posted to Instagram about a month ago. It should have auto-fed onto my Facebook page, so I'll see if I can find a link there. It will give you a pretty good idea of the approach, I think.

@Lilly Here's the link to that mini video: https://www.facebook.com/Julia...s/10153800225822190/

Wow Julia!!!! Thanks for all the details, I love the oven light through the window ;-)

Thanks! My window clouded more than I wanted; I was hoping the turkey inside would be more visible too!

Hi Julia,

maybe more thinner the isomalt glass, but that compromise its structure. Too fussy is not healthy. Your creation is perfect!
