On the "love" cookie I swiped a dampened fan brush over the surface and thought the effect was unusual.  The shine on the cookies may be one or all of three things--natural lighting, corn syrup in the royal icing, or the use of a fan to dry the icing.

This was my first attempt at brush embroidery, and it was not as hard as I thought it might be to get the hang of it.  The end result reminded me of cherry blossoms.

Yes, it must have been the dampened brush that imparted the sheen I was commenting on - I can see the brush strokes. It is an interesting effect. Thanks for the detailed explanation!

I love the sheen on these cookies. The right circle looks almost as if something is painted on it. Can you explain how you got the shine? TIA.

So lovely, Karla. I’ve yet to try the technique you used on the flower, but after seeing the great job you did on these ‘romantic’ cookies, I think I’ll put this on my to-do list.  😃
