This started as the leftover red from last week that I used for my lobster in the challenge--for that I added white frosting (without white food coloring in it) to a small amount of lime green that was left in the bowl then added Super Red. It was fine for the lobster but wasn't red enough for lips, so I added maybe 1/4 tsp of Super Red today. Red is so difficult--it can turn too dark on you so quickly!  I took this photo about 20 minutes after I frosted my last cookie. They were in front of a fan and I think it helps that the frosting was crusted over but not dry.  I think it also helped that my leftover red had matured quite a bit.

Okay, this is hands down the most amazing Halloween decorated sugar cookie I have EVER seen.  Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I've see alot!  My question is this:  Did you use a template or did you do this free hand?

Thank you!  I don't own a KopyKake so I always freehand (usually with a pre-drawn plan) or use templates. I used a template for these--I found what I liked on the internet then traced it in parts as I cut it apart.  I painted the black RI on in a very thin coat because I wanted dimension and then did the teeth and finished with the lips. These were done at the last minute--they'd look better on a flooded cookie but I didn't have time.  I also want to shine the lips with corn syrup next time.  I think that would look cool!
