Be careful and test on another surface first. I think the color could run with corn syrup, as it takes a while to dry. I'd attach the sugar with a smear of loose-ish royal icing, in the same color as your undercoat, instead, as it will dry faster and bleeding/running would be less likely to occur.

Great - I just did the same thing for the garden arbor project that I'm releasing to YouTube this week (green sugar for the grass).
