This month, I'm launching a new chat series called the Rising Star Series, aimed at casting the spotlight on some of our newer members who are making waves with their fabulous work. (By "newer members", I generally mean those who have joined the site within a year of their chat time.) On October 8, 2016, in our inaugural chat of this series, I'll be speaking with Sonja Galmad, perhaps better known as swissophie, with the aim of getting behind some of her fabulous knitted fabric and dimensional ruffle techniques . . . among other things, of course!

Thanks to her mom’s urging, Sonja Galmad, aka swissophie, first ventured into gingerbread houses around November 2015. When Sonja wanted to add some modeling chocolate decorations to her house, she stumbled upon Julia M. Usher’s YouTube video on the subject, and then found more cookie decorating tutorials just a click away. By December 2015, she had made her first decorated cookies, which she gifted to a friend’s family, and, not long after (on January 17, 2016, to be exact), she joined Cookie Connection.
Sonja’s intricately piped work, that often resembles knitting, quickly grabbed the attention of Cookie Connection members and catapulted Sonja into “Super Gobbler” status within just a few months.
Sonja is married with four grown-up kids and enjoys decorating cookies as a hobby when not helping her husband with the administrative side of his business. Sonja recently moved to one of the most beautiful parts of Switzerland, directly on Lake Constance, which borders Germany and Austria. Exploring this area by bike, whenever the weather allows, has become a new passion of hers.
