I dont have a huge supply of cookie cutters. Where do y'all get your cookie cutters and do you prefer metal or plastic or a variety of both? Also how do you choose what to buy? Do buy them as you are needing them or buy your favorites?

Fancy Flours is a good source as is copper gifts.com.  I like the copper cutters as they seem to cut better to me after I have taken the rolled-out sheets of dough from frig.  It's very firm but I have better luck with cookie holding the shape.  ecrandal is another good source.  However some of these 3D printer types make some interesting shapes in plastic.

My favorite cutters are those handmade by tinsmiths.  They are unique, fun and cut well.  They are also expensive.  I love most copper cutters, but the new stuff out of China is poor quality.  I'm not even convinced they use a copper coating.  I also love stainless steel cutters from Europe.   They cut well and have great designs.  The downside is they are small and expensive for their size.  I also enjoy the plunger style that leaves an imprint.  I own lots of cutters made from 3D printers, but I'm not fond of them.    Some are made by people who don't make cookies and don't understand what works and what doesn't.   Food safe cutters are biodegradable and will not survive hot water.  I wouldn't leave them in water or wet.  Since you can't clean them with hot water I worry about cleanliness.   I do look at cookie cutters as art and have a sizable collection.
