Cookie goddesses, please help me!! I have received a last minute order that wants script under a picture on a square cookie. Obviously, it would be a lot faster to be able to "trace" the script...Can I print on rice or wafer paper, adhere to dried royal icing, and then PIPE over the design? I'm terrified the whole thing will fall off...and these cookies are for my local chamber of commerce, so I need to put out an impressive cookie!!

Yes you can trace/pipe over a wafer paper design with royal icing. You need to fix the wafer paper to the dried icing on your cookie first let that dry, then pipe away over the design

Yes, I concur with Wickstead's Eat Me (who are experts on this topic, BTW). I would add that I've had some lifting of paper occur when I've piped on it when I haven't let the corn syrup (gluing the paper) completely dry. I usually dry the "glued" paper overnight (or a minimum of an hour or so) before piping on the top or on edges that are prone to lifting.

Thank you! I had indeed been piping away before I let it dry...

Thank you Julia, I think this has indeed been the issue...

Do they explicitly ask for piped script? I am just wondering why you want to pipe over the wafer paper script and not just leave it as it is

They didn't, I just think it looks so nice and the effort put in really is evident. That being said, if the printed design looks great as is once it's on, you can bet I'll be leaving it alone!! NOT looking forward to hours of piping.
