Are there any resources or places where we can research or post to share how we could use a particular shape cookie cutter to make other things? Sugarbelle seems to be incredibly creative with this (her baking theme cookies are the perfect example) but I don't have the much visionary inspiration in my feeble brain!

Did you try Klickitat Street.com? If I remember well Sweetsugarbelle got inspired by her and actually she posted the link to her website (that's how I found Klickitat, she's also a member of this community). You will find some tutorials.

You can always create a new forum topic to which people can post how they morphed cookie cutters into other shapes. You might open it with an example of something you did, so that others have an example to follow for posting. If enough people contribute to the topic over time, I'll consider opening up a whole new forum category. But I hesitate to do this until we give it a test, since we already have so many forum categories.

If you want to start/seed this topic, a logical place to locate it would be under this existing forum category: http://cookieconnection.juliau...forum/technique-tips

MPolly - After reading your post I did a search here on "repurpose" and not much showed up. I thought maybe it was a clip category or something but I guess not. In the meantime, if you are looking for something specific, do a search for "repurpose cookie cutter" on Pinterest. Quite a few items come up.

What about starting with the beautiful "Baby Alice in wonderland" by Evelindecora: http://cookieconnection.juliau...-alice-in-wonderland where she repourposed a Christmas cookie cutters, and all the entries of Practice Bakes Perfect Challenge #11?

I'm in love with your site Julia, I am trying to catch up with the last two years, I saw that cookies yesterday.

Great idea (I forgot about that challenge! ). Anyone here should feel free to start that topic, seeding it with links to the above stuff or with photos of your own! I'll leave it to you folks to get it started, as I'm super busy with the Cookiers' Choice Awards and other site articles right now. Anyone can start a forum topic under the "Post" button.

BTW, quite a lot comes up on the site when you search "frankencookie". Though not quite the same thing as morphing a single cutter, these are clever ways to get more mileage out of your cutters by using more than one at once: http://cookieconnection.juliau...String=frankencookie

I can easily open up another clip set to house repurposed cutter ideas, and we can see if people actually use it. Again, we have so many clip sets, I hesitate to add complexity. But I'll give it a shot and announce it later today.

Definitely checkout LilaLoa's new book "The Cookie Companion" by Georganne Bell.  She also has a Craftsy class going on RIGHT NOW on this very subject.  Here is her link:  http://bit.ly/1RqZnfw  She's on Facebook too under LilaLoa and always has some creative way of working with cutters in new ways.  She was one of my first sources of inspiration when I started doing cookies and I am still inspired by her 3 years later!!

Great idea! I did not know about her new Craftsy class; I'll have to get it linked up on our resources page later today. That's where I list all of the online cookie decorating classes that I know of. If you know of more that are not there, please let me know. Thanks. http://cookieconnection.juliau.../pages/onlineclasses

I'd use it...a LOT...   I've been waiting for this!   It would be great to have it at CC all in one place.

Mike Tamplin is excellent to at Sweet ...oh gosh, I can't remember, just Google him.  He does great repurposing work.  Check out his Mayflower for Thanksgiving.

Thanks for proposing this mPolly!           Pip

Thanks Julia!  I've been following all the replies on my mobile since my original inquiry and just today got back to a full-sized keyboard/monitor-had planned to follow your instructions.  LOVE this site.  Thanks so much for all you do to keep it running smoothly.

You're most welcome!

I am just adding my agreement with Cookie Celebration. I just finished Georganne Bell's Craftsy class, which is specifically based around different ways to use your cutters. I have come away completely inspired, with a load of new ideas and am looking at my cutters in completely different ways now.

I think it's still on offer at the moment, I'm sure there was a link somewhere on the site where Julia had posted 50% off new craftsy classes.

and yay to us having a re-purposed cutter set

Yeah, the link to 50% off Georganne's class can be found in the forums. I posted it within the last week. A forum search should pick it up pretty easily.

What does one do when they need to "create" a cookie without a cutter? For example, I'm making a Dog, and I don't have a  cutter specifically for that. I'm really not the artist to be able to free hand something like that...

general web searches and Pinterest have been valuable resources for me.  For example, in Pinterest, search the words Dog, Cookie, Royal, Icing, and it'll show you dogs made from hearts, bells, on squares and doghouse shapes.  My personal "thing" is to use a sketch pad to determine the different layers of icing that were laid down, in what order, to build it up to any particular design.

**Forgot to mention...I also keep a notebook with all of my cookie cutters outlined with pencil, so that when I need to remind myself of the shapes I have, it's easy to flip through and rotate the shapes in my hand/head.
