Wondering if anyone can shed some light on the laws surrounding a home cookie business in Ontaro - Toronto specifically.

All I have come across is this link http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/ht...egs_900562_e.htm#BK2

I didn't see anything in there prohibiting a home bakery provided it meets all the building expectations. Yet all the Ontario cookiers I am aware of rent commercial kitchen space. I would love to turn my hobby into something more profitable but a commercial kitchen isn't in the cards for me right now - time commitments with my day job, no car to transport cookies/supplies, and the cost - some of the ones I looked at were $35/hour + and it takes me many, many hours to work on cookies.

Any input or further direction would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have the answers, but recalled a rather long thread about this at Cake Central. It seemed like the written regulations weren't all that helpful, but consensus was that it wouldn't work from home. You can read through the whole thread to see all the different experiences people had.

Thank you! I remember seeing this thread forever ago but there is more information now.. Although still no concrete answer haha. I wish Canada just had cottage food laws, it seems so much easier to get the correct info!
