What is the proper way to reference bloggers on this site?  I want to make reference to bloggers if I follow their instructions for a design that I post here.  Should I include their blog address in my comments? link to my blog?  If the instructions are included in directions for this site, please point me in the right direction.  Thanks.

Hi, Diane,

Did you post this question elsewhere on the site today? I could have sworn I answered it already, but cannot find the post. If so, can you please send me the link? I'd like to delete one of the posts so there aren't duplicate questions across the forums.

But to answer your VERY GOOD question. If you've drawn on an idea or design from a blogger, or anyone else for that matter, a good general rule of thumb is to reference that person as a source along with a link to his/her source inspiration (blog, site, video, or other source).

If you're uploading a photo, the best place to put a source link is in the first comment immediately following the photo, NOT in the caption title or sub-title. Neither of those fields will accept a live link (hyperlink), though the comments area will.

In addition to including a source link in the first comment, I urge everyone to make mention of the source (inspiration) in BOTH the photo caption (subtitle) and the tags. That way, if someone searches on that person's name, the images that s/he inspired will all come up.

P.S. I am also moving this question to the "Site Stuff" forum. which is the best place for asking site-related questions. This forum in which you originally posted is intended for pointing out your favorite blogs and tutorials.

Please note: This point is also addressed in the site's Terms of Use (that everyone is supposed to acknowledge to have read before they sign up for the site) and in the Site FAQ (third question down). I urge everyone to re-read these guidelines and ALWAYS give credit where credit is due! Thank you.

*** ADDENDUM: EXAMPLES OF PROPERLY CREDITED WORK ***

(POSTED MARCH 22, 2015)

Below are a few examples of nicely credited photos that draw on different sources of inspiration. Listed in parentheses are the areas (title, subtitle, tags, etc.) where the publisher cited her sources and placed links. These are great examples to follow when crediting your own work.

Original Art Source (cited in title, subtitle and tag)http://cookieconnection.juliau.../clip/alphonse-mucha

Licensed Characters (put in Character Cookie clip set; also called out as a Disney character in tags and subtitle)http://cookieconnection.juliau...m/clip/frozen-castle

Cookier Inspiration (cited in subtitle and tag; also a link to cookier's site in the first comment): http://cookieconnection.juliau...aint-your-own-cookie
