I have a hard time making even the most simple ribbon roses...I have a bunch on hand but most of them are nibbled by my granddaughters because they are so bad I don't want them on a cookie! I seem to have an issue with turning the nail...I get about halfway around and get stuck...if I curl my hand, I can get 3/4 of the way around. All of the youtube videos make it look so simple. I really want to make petal roses but I figure if I can't make a ribbon rose, I can't graduate to the next step. Any suggestions? I love to have royal icing transfers on hand.

Clarification - my flower nail doesn't "twirl" in my fingers. Is there a specific technique for making that happen? I use a metal flower nail.
Debbie, I find it easier (not that it's easy) to make a petal rose because you aren't going all the way around in one twirl like a ribbon rose. The difficulty with the petal rose is to remember to twirl, squeeze, point your tip in, point your tip out and lift your tip up, in the span of 2 seconds! YIKES ... but seriously, I sat for hours and just made petal rose after petal rose. I can tell you the SweetAms has some good tutorials that show you exactly what to do. I found it very helpful. ~Lisa~
Thanks - I haven't seen SweetAmbs tutorial - I'll search it out. Maybe you are right - it is the need for continuous swirl that is messing me up. I really appreciate the response!
